Default Will an 18"sub fit???

I want to get an 18" sub but I do not know if it will fit in the back of my tC. Im sure it could if I got a custom enclosure, but those things can get pretty expensive.

Are there any sub boxes under $50 that will fit an 18 into my trunk??

You're trying to put an 18" sub in a tC and don't want to spend over $50 for the box?! If I were you I'd make sure I had a damned good box without setting a limit for myself.

As for fitting... I don't know. Depends on how it's mounted probably.

If you are going with an 18" sub, and you push it even moderately, I think you will have some serious rattle issues in your hatch area. While an 18 will probably hit hard, you'll probably have a hard time tuning it for any kind of clarity because of the size of the tC interior, in conjunction with the sheer amount of air it can displace, creating all types of in phase and out of phase sound waves.

Do the 12's, you'll be happier.

as for a box...

or

With a 15, id go sealed box. but that is just me...

Not sure what you're trying to imply, but that thinking is definitely off. In regard to "in phase and out of phase sound waves" (as you put it), an 18 in the tC isn't going to be any different than a 10, 12 or 15. Also, phase is relative, so when you say the output of a driver is in or out of phase, it has to be quantified with a comparitive from another source.

you won't fit an 18 ported. i don't believe in sealed boxes anymore. do a good 12 or 15 or a pair of 10's or 12's.

are you going to go ported? a proper sized ported box for an 18 will not fit in the tc. a 15 in a ported box takes up the entire trunk. if you port an 18 in to small of a box it will sound bad and not worth it. you might as well do 10's 12's or a 15. with a good 15, setup properly, you can hit 145-150db's easily which is crazy loud.

a guy on caraudio.com in a honda accord(trunk car) is getting 147.xx at the headrest with a single 15 on 3000-4000 or so watts. that is insane AND it's in a TRUNK CAR so it should be even louder in a hatch like ours. you don't need an 18 and it won't fit properly enclosed.

If your pushing that much power do not compromise on a box. I personally would just save up and get a custom box because boxes can literally explode sending shards on wood everywhere. Also have you thought about wires cause those can get pretty expensive. You will need at least four gauge wire for ground and power, a set of RCA's and I personally would use areound ten gauge for speaker wire for the sub. It adds up quick so just keep that in mind.

seriously dude if you havent bought the 18 yet buy two 10's or two 12's you will be able to make your car look and sound great, some times bigger is not better.

From what ive researched over the past 2 months...the 18 will give me the deepest/lowest bass possible...And still give off amazing quality...I dont car about trunk space...So 18 would be my best choice if I can get it to fit...

Listen everybody...I thank you for your input...But I have decided on the 18"...I went to an Audio forum instead of a TC forums and asked them what they thought...Here are the results...

http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=37617

Now im not saying these guys know more about car audio that you...But its a little more tempting to believe the Audio Forum...

Sounds like you had your decision made before you went onto any forums anyways. Go get the dang sub and be happy. You won't find a $50 custom box that big. If lucky..it would be about $50 after materials cost.

You also say you dont want too much bass...you don't think an 18" sub is overkill? I love rap/hip hop/electronic and for my daily use a 12" DVC is good enough. I have all my settings lows too..so I think you will be deaf very fast.

Also can't wait until you have to carry something longer or wider than a few feet.

By that I mean...I dont want like 2000-4000 Watt RMS like some of the people on that forum have...You wouldnt believe what people are doing on the forum..

So when I said I don want too much bass...I was just saying I dont want a Monster System...I would still like to have an above average system...
