the wiring necessary is not present in the '05.

i wanted to swap out my '06 steering wheel with a buddy of mine.. but it was impractical to do so.

speaking to my buddy at scion, he told me that the wiring necessary would cost alot... he told me maybe around $800.. and then installing it would be a job in itself....

steering is easy to get, but the whole head part is hard to find and it may cost a lot

i think you are on the right track, and 800 is ludicrus.

you need the steering wheel, the harness you mentioned and then the PAC SWI-ECL if your Eclipse has a steering input. If it doesn't you'll go with the tried and true SWI-X which adds and IR eye. i don't understand why you would need the head unit at all.

Check with pac-audio.com on the conversion unit. And just contact your dealers parts area for the harness part# for the steering wheel. The question is will they simply sell that 8 part wire or do you have to get the entire audio harness?
Or maybe you can get one off a junker?

I just wonder if someone has done something crazy like that.
I have no idea how to mod it, but I wish to hear someone who is very experience in it.

i don't think it's that complicated. but your first step would be to find out if you can get the harness and what it costs.

steering wheel --> harness --> PAC Audio unit ???

be adventurous. i would try it. i could be wrong, but i don't think a simple test would require the harness to even draw power. you just want to link up the little white plug on the back of the steering unit to the colored leads. with that simple test you won't get the illumination, but that would be secondary. Give pac audio a call they can tell you about the units they sell. if you are less adventurous you just go with the IR unit they sell.

and where are you finding totaled tcs in NY? I need some replacement parts.

You can connect the steering wheel controls to an alpine radio. If you have a 2005 TC, you can install steering wheel audio controls on the steering wheel (the steering wheel would have to be replaced), and connect it to an aftermarket radio. I have done it.

I have a 2005 Scion TC and added a new steering wheel with audio controls and tied it to my Kenwood. It does work.

well... dont forget guys... there will be a module on the steering column for the steering wheel controls... cause your steering wheel has to be able to turn... so there is a lot more to this than most of you think... i would imagine that the way the steering column is you will have a rough time putting in the module... cause its wants designed to go in the 05's and you have to run the wires down... i can guarantee that it needs a acc 12volts, and ground... and maybe even a 12volt cnostant... its sounds overly complicated and way too much freaking money to get a so so out come..... just me...

No, it's actually pretty simple. The radio controls on the wheel plug into a connector on the fron of the steering wheel. This connector passes all of the signals through a ring on the steering wheel. On the other side of the steering column is the other end of this connector. All you have to do is purchase a mini connector (toyota - on Ebay) and this will give you the ability to tap all of the signals.

The connector then mates up with a PAC unit to control the stereo.
