Default $500 for 15k service?!? Looking for some opinions...

So, my 15k service was $179, which is pretty average across the board I'd assume...

However, my service technician came back and said I needed a power steering fluid flush because my fluid was almost black, a carbon cleaning service for my injectors, and an HVAC cleaning service as well. I made the mistake of authorizing these services without really thinking about it, so a bit later I asked to be shown the fluid. It was indeed pretty dark, so I had no problem with that. The injector cleaning though, I feel like I got ripped off on, same with the HVAC service. I have bad allergies though, so I'm willing to let that one slide. I still feel like I got duped though, so I don't really need to hear that I'm a dumbass because I already feel like one. A dumbass with a $500 charge on his credit cart at that...

Have any of you had the service people at your dealership tell you that you needed these things done after only 15k miles? Just looking for input on similar experiences...

I still think my salesman and the dealership are good people, and I don't look at this as being a reflection on them, but this guy in the service department really left me feeling like they stuck it to me without so much as a courtesy reacharound.

I'm surprised (not really) that they would run up the bill like that before telling you the charge for the "service".

I will never ever spend $500 just for a service on my car.

I think it's BS. Not to mention they should've given you an estimate before asking you to agree to anything.

And just fyi, my car has almost 29,000 (2006, sole owner, all the miles are ours) and I have no issues at all.. so.. I dunno. Sorry about the bill.

oil change/brake change/liquid refill/tire rotate.

this isnt the 1970's. Modern cars today are built to last as long as you maintain just the BASICS. Unlike Ford/Gm/Chevy.. toyotas is like a mar

you're under no obligation to use up your prepaid oil changes at the dealer. A lot of people never use them.

For the 15k service I think the recommended service is understandable. But I think the dealership charged you to much for doing that. Excluding the oil change and tire rotation, you can pretty much do the rest of the 15K service yourself. All they do is spray Lysol disinfectant in your a/c ducts and windsheild cowls. They also pour a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank and replace your wiper blades.

Well you know what they'll say about not following the recommended service intervals.
Warranty is questionable if something majorly fails if service history records are not in your favor.

My dealership suggested I flush the injectors as well...woulda been $200 extra. I said hell no. My $15k maintenance was $70

PS fluid is good for about 2 years before it oxidizes. I already changed mine 4 months after I got my xB with Synlube PS fluid good for at least 5 years and it reduces friction and wear.
A/C service should have been a cabin filter change if you ever had a filter installed in the first place - the xB comes without one.
Injector flush is a bottle of gas treatment which you should be doing yourself and adding a little at each fillup to keep them clean and boost gas mileage.
