Default *Updated* concerning issue wit my tC (NEW PROBLEM)

yo, i know people always trollin on the tC, and i want to say, my tC has had no issues b4 this one. i have no rattles or popping, or anything. anyways, this is the story...one day i had my music on mute, and i noticed kind of a ticking sound when i revved above 3k rpms in 4th (slowing down to get off I-95)...so when i reached a light, i revved a few times, then took off fairly hard and banged through the gears to see if i heard it again...sure enough, it was there in 2 and 4th. its kinda quiet, i only notice it wit the music down.

so earlier i took the car to the dealer...after 3 hrs of crap, the shop manager took it out for a drive and said he noticed it. he said he's never heard that b4, and wants me to drop it off again so he can try to figure it out. i am curious to know if anyone has come across this...anyone have any ideas? the ticking gets faster the higher the revvs leading me to believe its a moving part. hope i can get this fixed...thanx for your input

is it a hard metallic ticking? or a more muted ticking?

i think someone on here had similar issues and the group consensus was the timing chain.....

are the noises only with it in gear? or if you're in neutral and rev it to 3000 rpms, is the noise still there?

If the noise is only with it in gear, I'd say it sounds like the synchronizers are bad..

if noise when not in gear, then either the valve train or the timing chain..

let me know where the noises are..

hmnmmm, its a hard mettalic ticking. its very soft though. i doubt its the synchro's....its coming from my engine compartment...valve train or timing chain might be it. any other ideas? i'll try the rev in neutral thing in the morning to see if i hear it.

I think I have the same problem as you...but I have it mainly in 3rd and 4th at about 3k-up. It sounds like the engine throttle or something to me, but I don't really know much about auto mechanics. The shop foreman at a local dealership here said he wasn't sure what the problem was, and they actually ended up keeping the car overnight as they couldn't figure it out. They finally ended up replacing the timing belt tensioners, and the sound was gonna for a little while, but resurfaced soon again. The shop foreman was cool about it though, he said to bring it on back if something else goes wrong so that it'd be easier for them to pin down the problem, b/c as is the car runs fine except for that noise (that's what the techs thought too).

I don't suppose you have a DC Sports dual carbon strut tower bar, do you?

sounds like it could need a valve adjustment too. valves out of spec could make a light ticking sound.

you can't adjust the valve train in a tC, the motor does not use adjustable valve clearance parts.

I don't know about solotc's issue, but mine only makes the noise when I'm in gear--it does not do it when I rev it in neutral.
