damn, it took me almost a month to get the car back to the dealer. i finally did it tho. left it today. they called me and told me the found the source of the problem. it was actually the transmission. (didnt xpect that)...they said they dont know what it was, if it was potentially dangerous or not, so they are giving me a whole new transmission (YAY!)...gotta love DARCARS and their warranty coverage.

hmmmm sounds like that's pretty serious if they're gonna replace the whole tranny...
i haven't been hearing mine do that too often lately, but maybe i'll take it in again soon...

so when do you expect the work to be done? i'm interested in hearing the outcome...

yeah that's why i asked if it was making noise when in gear, then it would suffice to say it was the transmission.. not the engine, since it didn't make the noise in neutral..

i've heard of other tC owners who have the manual having the entire transmission replaced.. seems there are some bad ones out there, mostly bad synchro's and bad alignment of internal parts.. they did right in just getting you a whole new transmission, i bet you won't have anything making noise now..

the car should be done this afternoon of friday at the latest. i trust darcars cuz they have the biggest collision repair center on the east coast (means they have alota buying power). so i'm sure that it will be done on time. hopefully nothing else is gon end up actin up. i also get the sunroof tsb. well, its all speculation till i get it back and see how it drives. but it is interesting to know that a few other people have had the same issue wit a shady transmission.

when i test drove the tC last summer 4 out of 5 manual tc's i drove had problems, linkage not lined up properly, synchros bad, clutch slipping (4 miles on odo!) i figured first year production problems.. it's why I opted for the auto at the time, made a bet with the salesguy that these would probably be recalled. yep, then i started to see it.. people having shifting and trans problems..It's most likely fixed now, i just couldn't wait a year, needed a car right then.

I bet that yours will be smooth now.. let us know..

So whats the outcome on the new tranny?
Is it making the same ticking noise, that sounds like it's coming from behind the dash?

Thank God I didn't get the manual since I live in CA and it's a b*tch to drive manual here due to traffic!

Mine is smooth as butter too, due to when I first bought the tC, I changed the gear oil with Redline MT-90 and replaced the crapy OEM rubber shift bushings with solid brass shift linkage bushings. These where the first things on the to do list for the tC, due to the shifting being notchy and not smooth at all.
The shifting was about 85%, which is enough to drive, but now it's at 100%, the way it should be. In every car there is room for improvement, compared to stock....

I know what you mean though, due to test driving 5 tC's and 1out of the 5 grinded really bad coming out of 1st into 2nd and 3rd into 4th. Immediately this told me the syncros are either not put in right or just plain bad. All 5 tC's shifting was very notchy and hard to flow in the gears smoothly, due to the OEM GL-5 gear oil being to slick and slippery for the copper syncros, which causes your grinding. The MT-90 is a GL-4, which is designed for Toyota syncros like all of ours. Remember the new tranny needs to break in too, so give it time to smooth out...

LOL......There's nothing wrong with the tC's manual transmission and it acually is better in traffic then my 7-Gen 6-speed Celica GT-S. Manual Transmission's are great, due to you having full control of the vehicle's speed. The manual tC does great in traffic..........

finally got the car back. drove for a while...its feels....tight....no more rattles, everything sounds nice and smooth...but i'm havin some issues with getting the car into gear. sometimes the lever just randomly gets stuck. and its hella hard to get into reverse now. i figure to be precautious, they over tightened erything when they fixed it....i'll give it a few days to see if it loosens up. if not i'm gonna hafta take it back. but yea, the rattle is gone.
