Are you going past 127mph? You can get the ecu chipped or reflashed. Not sure what's available on the market right now.

Its limited at 127, if anyone made it past that point then the speedo was wrong.

If you remove it, you wont make it much further before redline anyway. Dont mess with it.

Plus, why? Where are you going to be able to run that speed? Not on a dragstrip without a TON of other mods..

ive been as fast as 150 mph in some cars (and 135 in my old eclipse). having done that, i see absolutely no need to go over 100 outside of a race track.

I was just wondering how you do it. Just for curiosity sake. I try not to pass 70mph on the freeway. Geez. Lots of you guys just jump to conclusions.

People just want to have the cool feeling of knowing their car can reach high speeds just to brag about it. Its not really that they want to go that fast often they just want people to know that their car is super cool because it exeeds 150+mph. But yes its your usual ricer stuff.

You have to modify the computer or add a chip or other mechanism to blind the computer's rev limiter.

My thinking is that you don't need to go that fast except on a race track. If you are on a track going 120+ then likely the engine and computer are going to be highly modified already and the rev limiter would have been just a small step along the way.

My last car, a 94 T-Bird Supercoupe went 140. I only did that a few times. But it just loved to cruise at 100-115. And i loved every second if it. It's exhilarating.
But that car was built for those speeds. My TC on the other hand, is definitely not. I haven't even taken it past 90.

I've taken it to 115, but I made sure I was on open highway where I knew the road conditions. Road very good. I'd recommend at least Lowering springs before doing that speed though.

Love the name (chemwhore) ^^

I have had mine to 115 and I can say it did great. But I have had two chances since I bought it last year to even get it there without risking getting caught or killed. So it is not imperative. Now, if someone on here is hitting the rev limiter on a 1/4 mile track, do two things:

1) Find out how to remove the limiter
2) Tell me where you live, and I will personally kiss your ___ for running those times

I went well over 135 (passed my freind whose car would top out at about 135 and left him behind) in a pinto station wagon. Yep, I said pinto station wagon! It was in high school, and the car was completely rebuilt (actually looked cool, just like a mini-hearse when it was done) with a HO 302 he dumped about 10,000 into. He had way too much time on his hands I know, but it was a scary ___ car and got all of about 3-4 mpg. Anyway, the point is that a pinto was not exactly designed for those speeds (big surprise). It began to "float" on me, drifting over the center line (front wheels were no longer really steering the car. This happens right before they lift off and something terrible happens) before I very gradually slowed it down and then pried my puckered rear out of the drivers seat! So there are reasons for limiting speed for a particular design. Stock ride height, weight and the near approaching redline are most likely the reasons on the tC.

A cop cannot give you a ticket because he "smelled your car". I would literally tell one to go away if they said that. Not to mention laugh at him.

But it isnt safe nonetheless.. but we all do it from time to time I know.
