Does anyone know at what temperature the air is supposed to come out of the vents? You can just measure the temp of the air and know if you car is not blowing cold enough air.

It's harder to cool down a car that is dark with dark interiors so those with white cars will cool down quicker than those with black cars.

I've noticed that when I park in the sun it takes a while to cool down but, on an equally hot day, it cools down really quick if I parked in the shade.

So it's anything below that VIN#??
yeah it's anything below that VIN number on the tsb.. since they made the change in production at that number.. so they added more refridgerant at that production change..

and yeah I agree to tell them the problem but to also have this info with you in case they say nothing exists.. it's just good to be prepared..
Ok then my car qualifies HA! i have a VIN below what is listed...hopefully they will get it fixed and i will be nice and cold HA! Summertime is here..it's hot..and so is the inside of my car... i want cold HA!

Mine gets ice cold.. so I am happy. It does take a bit to cool it off if it has been sitting in the 90 degree sun with the sunshades open... but that is normal. Try keeping them closed while sitting and while running the AC... helps a ton.

What does the * and # mean in the VIN on the TSB? I'm trying to figure out if my car is affected...

Mine eventually gets cold too...but if you're sitting in traffic when you come out of work (sunshades closed) it blows cool air but not cold...

My last 4 digits are below the 8331 (by about 3000) so I may take this in again soon when I get a chance and to have them look at my hatch AGAIN....last time they said it was my alumni license plate holder....amazing how lazy some Techs are.

Honestly all you have to look at are the digits after the * (asterisk, star) sign...I think the # and * indicates where it came into port and where it was manufactured for (region wise)???

Hell no! It would probably be around 60-65 degrees F, I doubt any colder than that.

If it blows 60 degree air you have a real problem. A good AC should blow around 40 degree air if I remember correctly.

Yep, you're remembering correctly...but you are remembering what an R12 system (FREON) would do. These days, the R134A systems will not cool as well as R12, especially if you're sitting still in stop/go traffic. There's not enough air blowing across the condenser (in front of radiator) to remove the heat properly. The older R12 systems would cut off the compressor at the 40F point, or thereabouts...Nowadays, your lucky to get anything better than a 35F drop in temps, inlet to outlet...

Here's what I do. When I first get in the car, the roof gets tilted and the windows get cracked open. I blow the air as cold as possible with the vents set to "fresh"...This helps get the HOT air out of the car...Once it's bearable in there and I'm moving, I'll close it all up and set it to recirc. It still takes a while. But it helps if you're not trying to cool down 135F air....
Both of my cars are AFTER the VIN# posted, but I think I'll still check it at my shop. Thanks for the info. At least NOW I know how much is supposed to be in there...

Wait why do we have to even show this to the dealrs, arent there enough sponser dealers on here to help us address this probelm?

I dislike going in to dealers and as a student when i try to tell them, they sort of look at me funny, like What,

I dont know, but yea my ac doesnt work effeciently at all, cause if it goes anywhere near 80 degrees i cant get cool in my car, and i sweat....

^^ its not the ****. They are adding freon to the system. My VIN falls in the range for the tsb, but so far mine seems to get cold, even in 95 degree weather. Actually I drove it in OK a few times when it was warmer than that and it was ok. It does take a bit to get cold though, not forever, but longer than I would expect. But once it does it will freeze you.

Had mine in service today for the same issue. slow cooling and not blowing cold.

This is what they did/said.

Also, i have no idea why they put in that last line. All i did is mention that my Honda Element blows ice cold when the TC just blows O.o. R-12 hasent been around in new cars since mid 90's...

yeah i love how they (the dealer) love to try to continue to give excuse after excuse even though it was obvious your a/c needed a better charge. So nice of the technician to try and "school you" about r-12.. (insert strong sarcasm here) And you're exactly right the Element does use r-134a! r-12 hasn't been around since 1993-1994 when r-134a replaced it.

So the big question is.. is the a/c colder now? did it solve the problem?
