Air-pressure in the tires is a serious matter. You should be checking to make sure you have good pressure(what ever your side wall says... 40 psi??) , every 3-4 weeks.

Are you putting in 87 octane gas ?
Do you have a CAI ?
Any engine mods ?

Do you gas it up to/ fairly close to stop signs/stop lights .... or do you coast it in gear while coming up to intersections. Utilize gravity .... it is your friend. Do you have a lead foot ? When do you shift(at what rpm's) ?

Don't forget that it's also the Winter, denser air means more power, which means more fuel. Also, you should factor in warmup times, wether you're letting it warm up, or just driving it...you're still going to use a bunch of extra gas.

To the OP, lose the eBay intake. I wouldn't doubt if it was restrictive, which easily leads to less power and less fuel economy.

Yeah I went from between 25-30 MPG to closer to 16/17. Course it is flippin cold around here, and it takes close to 10 minutes of idleing until the engine sounds "right". Can't wait until spring!!

You should be running what it says on the door jam or in the manual for tire pressure, not what it says on the tires. 32F/29R for the tC. You should be checking this regulalrly, because as mentioned above it will change with temp.

You can raise the pressure a bit and get a tiny bit of improvement in mileage, but if you go too high you will wear the tires in the center too quickly

And another biggie is to make sure you haven't driven for at least a couple of hours before you measure the pressure. Driving heats up the air in the tires, making the pressure go up- and giving you false readings. Plus, if its REALLY cold outside, the pressure will drop alot- so you don't wanna overfill them either.

hmm, my guess is shift points... with 75/25 city/highway driving i usuallly get 19 to 20 mpg... but this last tank i decided to try to keep it under 3k through out the gears.. which i admit i kouldnt hold back a few times... but still by keeping it under 3 k i got 25 mpg 75/25 city/highway...

for me thats a BIG difference... hell thats 60 miles extra!..

oh and that with I/E..

some of the lower results are kinda surprising. This winter we've been averaging around 24-25, combo hiway/stop & go, and that's in a winter that so far has dumped over 80" of snow and had multiple am's when the temps were -10 or colder..... we can pull maybe 28 in summer if driving decent, but he sc is too much fun not to hammer so don't always strive for economy. But i don't think we've ever dropped below 23-24 mpg's.
Now our FJ, when in either 4wd or pulling the boat..... that's another story... gotta luv when both rides run premium and it's always over 3.00 per gallon...

^^ when did they start doing that? could be the reason why my mpg peaked up after getting to about 3k miles and just dropped.

i typically get between 20-22mpg, but i do like 65% city driving, and theyre short trips too.

unfortunately the only chevron near my house is really close to the freeway (aka huge price hike), anyone know anything about 76 and Shell?

Just as I said before, you run what is on the door jamb of the car, not what is on the tire itself.

QFT.

So many people disagree, but the number on the tire is MAX psi, which means if it says 42 psi, and you put in 42 psi...that tire will have about 45 in it after it warms up. Plus the manufacture has no clue what vehicle that tire is going on. The number in the door jamb is the one to go off of, no matter what tire is on the car.

I cant run the tire psi written on the on the cars door.
I run on 18's and the stock psi rating are for 17s.

I took my car in for oil change and the people at the service stop in toyota lowered the psi to the door spec and 2 days later tire pressure light kicks in.

not to mention the rims riding reaaaaal close to the ground as the tire sags.

oo well in that case, its different. And i too get slower gas mileage, alwyas thought it was some of my bolt ons. I too get a 19-20 city shifting at 3k but im stil lhappy becuz wen i go highway i get about 30. Anyway when did they start putting 10 percent ethanol? Maybe thats why my car start losing mpg too, was it around november?
