in 2nd gear lurching when off throttle/minimal throttle?
So I wanted to see what your experience with this is. 2010 TC. First gear is very lurchy when not accelerating, but that is common.
But, what's surprising was that I was in traffic today and noticed that 2nd gear was extremely rough anytime i wasn't on the throttle an letting the idle keep me moving or letting the gear slow me down. by this i mean the car would rock back and forth and would not feel smooth. The rpms were about 2,000 - too slow for 3rd and this is the gear i normally drive in in traffic. it did not feel like it was even close to stalling or anything. it wasn't that kind of lurching. it was just uneven accleration/deceleration like almost bouncy. (hard to describe)
I've had 2 stick shift cars before this, albeit neither was a 4 banger (one was a v6 one was an i6 turbo). 2nd gear was always pretty smooth on both cars (being in gear already).
i found a thread on another board about this, but it didn't answer the question of weather this was normal. Also, i really like scionlife and prefer to discuss it here. but here's the link: http://www.yoursciontc.com/forums/12...hile-gear.html

you know, I actually had this same problem in my 09 tC when I was driving into queens this afternoon. It rarely happens to me, but I always thought it was because i didn't shift to second gear properly. This is my first MT/I4 car (all other cars have been AT/V6's).

scions have very short gear ratios, first and second gear are very short and therefore help the car either react very sensitively to on/off throttle inputs, and also, in the colder weather, while the car is warming up, it is idling higher, so until it warms up, it is idling between 1000-2000 rpms, and therefore idle will kick in sooner possibly making the car jerkier in gear.
