Default 5sp + Painful medical condition?

So, a few weeks ago(about 1-1.5 months, I threw my back out bowling.... or so I thought. I figured the pain would go away before I went and decided to pick up my 5sp tC. Well... I was talking to one of my coworkers who just recently had surgery and according to the symptoms... I could very well have a hernia. I'm hoping to all that is good and holy that I just pulled a muscle or something but, It's painful either way.

This leads me to my question. I've driven 5sp for maybe 15 minutes of my 7.5 years driving. I'm not overly familiar with how stiff a clutch can be but, how is the clutch on the tC. Would I end up screaming out like a little girl every time I need to shift or is it soft enough to not be too big of a deal?

Just as a comparison, I drive an 02 Civic LX 4Auto. The brake is spongey. I can brake comfortably with my left foot.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated and will be met with much gratitude.

shouldn't be a problem whatsoever. the car has a hydralic clutch and with only 160 hp, it doesn't need a very strong clutch. stiff clutches are for vehicles with alot of torque that need the extra clamping power to prevent slipping.

just keep in mind that if you are buying a new one, it will be alittle stiff at first, but it will soften up as you break it in.

omg what a coincidence. i just had surgery for a hernia on wednesday just 4 days ago. the doc told me not do drive for a week. i didn't drive wednesday or thursday but i did drive yesterday and quite a bit today and it was fine. it hurt more getting in and out of the car then actually driving it.

I think you should be ok man. First, though, I'd recommend you see the doctor... if it is a hernia, you should get it taken care of ASAP so that you don't keep living in pain. I'm no medical expert, but there might be complications if you keep waiting.

The tC clutch pedal is pretty "light." If its just a hernia, it shouldn't be any worse than driving any car. I think that as long as the muscle on top of your thigh (what is it called?) is ok, you should be fine with pressing in the clutch.

Anyway, though, get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids, and keep yourself nourished (proteins and such). Make an appointment with your doctor if it doesn't get better.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses, guys. Yeah, I'm actually in a bit more of a dilema but, I'm gonna have to make it work. I lost benefits through my job because I'd been working too few hours. My other job that I'm working 40 hours at doesn't offer benefits because it's a contract position. It'll take me about 90 days to earn back my benefits. Sucks though because my 16 hour per week job is the one that's helping draw the pain out. We shall see.

Again, thanks for the help. You guys rock.

yea that really sucks not having benefits and all. luckily for me mine never hurt at all, just a nice big lump but sometimes they can be painful i hear, but not always.

My dad has back problems. The tC clutch is so light, it's not an issue. Drive a porsche turbo and you've a problem. I guess there is some good to a clutch that feels like puddy afterall!

I hurt my back at work and I was having the same symptoms. I had a pain going down the back of my leg. After about three weeks it went away. You need to take it easy for awhile and see what happens.
