About the tC's brakes: ABS and Geriatric Drivers.
There have been quite a few posts about how crummy the tC's brakes are. I find Toyota brakes to be different from other car makers, but effective nonetheless.
Incidentally, I've always strongly believed that drivers over the age of 60 should be tested every year for their ability to operate a motor vehicle without posing a risk to everyone else on the road. Here's another good example why:
Tonight, on one of the many 50mph streets in Irvine, I was following another driver in an older Corolla at a reasonable distance. For absolutely no reason--other than perhaps an imaginary squirrel in the road--she suddenly slammed on her brakes, and slowed down to about 15 mph.
I braked HARD, absolutely positive I was about to collide with her car, when I heard the grinding "Dude, Where's My Brake Pad" sound of my ABS.
I don't think Grandma Chewie even noticed that she might have been in an accident. As I turned left at the light coming up to my apartment complex, she slammed on her brakes a second time in the middle of two lanes. Dead stop. After waiting behind her for several minutes, I saw her turn signal come on, and watched her pull into the shopping center at about 5mph.
I'm very happy the tC's brakes perform as well as they do--apparently they perform just as well on other Toyota cars, like older Corollas.

Yes older drivers are a hazard if they are lacking in the skills of driving. However, on the other hand you will be old too one day. Then you will be the fogey driver being _____ed at by the youngins.

I don't know about 60... but probably 70 or 75, at least, should be tested a little more often.
That being said, my grandfather is going to be 91 next month and I believe he still drives when necessary. I don't really feel that he should be, because his condition is getting worse (
) ... but as far as I know, he still does OK driving.

this reminds me of the southpark episode where the town evoked the seniors' license and the aarp took over the city and declared a war.
good stuff.
that being said, i was behind an elder yesterday. We were coming up on a busy intersection where the light was green. She slammed on her brakes and came to a dead stop at the green light. I guess she saw the people in the left turn lane not moving so she figured she shouldn't move either. i dunno.

i agree completely that over 60 or 65 drivers should be tested more frequently! They are nuts. I finally had a theory.. maybe it's not so much because they got old.. maybe they SUCKED as drivers their entire life!
I think the tC brakes just work a little different than people are used to - the stopping force seems to be more geometric than linear. If you're light on them, they seem kinda crappy. When you SLAM on them, they haul this thing to a stop pretty quick.

Both of them deserve the privilage of driving, and are good drivers.

Some us dont get many breaks in life.
When I am working I am supposed to get two 15 minute breaks.
