the thing u should keep in mind with a CAI is that the CAI for the tC are not TRUE CAI's. they basically suck the air in the engine compartment and flow it into the engine, you are gettin the hp b/c it is less restricted, it's actually not really colder air that you are sucking in there. look at all the ppl with intakes, the intake sits basically a few inches behind the radiator where pure hot hell air blows off and into the engine. It's not truly cold air. The stock intake on the tC is pretty descent, it actually sucks in cold air from behind the front wheel fender, if you notice the tubing it goes all the way down...where the air is actually cooler.

Now onto the other thing, when u get a CAI you also tend to shift the torque curve of ur car...this causes the torque curve to move up, meaning that you will lose low end torque and gain high end torque. the power loss in mid range is going to be somewhat noticable, so will the sound...you will hear a light suction sound. The hp gain is only going to be around 5hp which you will not notice, it's going to be a self fulfilling prophecy where you are going to convince yourself that you are feeling something...personally i dont think it's worth it unless u want that suction sound

The K&N CAI is a true cold air intake. It goes into the wheelwell. Actually have to take the front wheel off to install it. The AEM is supposed to do the same thing, but they have yet to put them on the market. There are short ram intakes, like WR version that is a hot air intake. I understand the K&N can break down to be a short ram intake. Different small increases in different power bands.

The major issue is all the CAI are having issues with heatsoaking....the pipes getting hot, heating the cold air. ALl the ideas I've seen so far that sound good... a carbon fiber or plastic one would be the best option.

i have a K&N CAI and there is a no heatsoak problem at all and it is plastic. i drove around pretty hard on my car for about 1-2 hours 2 days ago, got home, popped my hood and touched the intake and it was barely warm right next to the engine. the bottom part of the pipe actually felt cold a little and it was only 65-70 outside.
