Default Rough clutch engagement

Is there a break in period for the clutch on a new car. Ive never driven a brand new manual before so my new tC is the first...it feels as if when i let the clutch out when up shifting it jerks a little hard. Is this normal or am I not gassing enough before i let the clutch out?

It takes awhile for the clutch to reach its full grip.

Default Clutch

I also was wondering about the clutch engagement of my Tc. It was a shock to jump in to my new Scion at the dealer, and have so much difficuly making smooth clutch releases. It is really on/off when engauging, with no in between. I am totaly new to Toyotas/Scions and I have no way to gauge If I have a problem or not. I have been driving manuals every day for 14 years, so I ruled out that issue. Coming from Honda, Subaru, Nissan, Acura, and Hyundai, my Tc's clutch feels like a dumptrucks. Is this the nature of the beast? Will it soften up out after time. ( I only have 700ish miles now.)
Any info or insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

I used to get SOOOO frusterated with mine because i couldn't switch gears smoothly. And i'm no novice to a standard. But just the other day i realized that i haven't had any trouble lately. I 'm at 10k miles now so i assume there was just a pretty lengthy break in period for the clutch.

I'm up around 2000 and have just started to get used to my clutch. I have been driving stick for 15+ years and this one is definitely the most sensitive one I have driven. Of course, this is the first time I have driven anything NEAR a performance type car. I noticed that if you give it a little gas before engaging the clutch with EVERY gear change, it likes it. I have noticed it soften up just lately and the gearbox seems to be settling in. Of course, I also try not to slam the gears into place, either. That'll shorten the life of a tranny more than anything........ (Of course, I wonder how much life I am removing from my tranny with all of these redline shifts that I have been doing. This is the first vehicle I've ever driven where I have been aggressive [consistently] on the shifting. I guess time will tell.)
