Default Aftermarket projectors+hid's?

So if someone ever makes a projector lamp for the tc (its bound to happen), will hids work in the projector? i was reading another forum talking about retrofits, but im unclear...
its obvious that halogen light housings have a different beam pattern than hid lights, but are projector lights all the same? you know how some are zenon (s2000), and some are halogen(sonata), are projestors universal? if so, the aftermarket projector lights are usually 200-350, plus the hids, and thats easier (and maybe cheaper?) than retrofit. i had projector angeleyes on my accord, they were tight as hell, but the projectors sucked. im not sure if they would be something you would want to put xenons into???????

Crappy projectors are just that - crap. But I don't think that anyone would really buy projectors for the tC unless they were pretty decent quality and had the correct cutoff for HID. People aren't complete morons and the people making these things know that, so I doubt you'll see that kind of thing around here. Anyway, if someone does make good projectors, they'll work good with HID. As long as the cutoff is correct and the beam is correctly focused, things will be good. And we'll all be throwning down like $600-700 for the setup... part of me can't wait, the other part of me is glad they don't exist yet.

so, are you saying that projectors dont have different patterns for halogen or hid? ive had them apart before... that little half circle lens, the metel cuttoff, i guess im wondering if the actual lens has like a prescription like glasses? one dirrent for each type of light? my accord projectors had a sloppy cutoff, bad beam dispersion, etc. bassically all i want to know if projectors are the same for hids and halogen...

Projectors are not the same for HID and halogen. In fact, certain reflectors exist for HID - not ours, but they do exist (see the 05 Prius). In general the projectors are set up for the type of bulb they are expected to be used with. I don't know about any aftermarket projectors, but I think it's really a case-by-case basis. Will someone rush out some cheap crap, the only criteria of which is that it's a projector? Probably. A retrofit BWM 5 series or Acura TSX, if it will fit, are going to provide focused controlled light. Anything else is just wait and see.

Um... we've talked about this before. Rebased is when someone takes an HID bulb and makes it work with 9006 housing. Which "works" fine. Except that you'll be blinding everyone in oncoming traffic because of our reflectors. And then if you ever decide to get real HID retrofit projectors, the rebased bulbs won't fit. I long for the days when Hawkeye was here to tell everyone this every time someone said it so I don't have to.

True, you can get hotspots here and there.

If you're going to get a HID rebased kit look for one labeled as d2r bulbs. What this means is there is a ceramic "paint" on the top of the bulb that helps prevent stray light from blinding drivers and keeps it mainly on the road. d2r's arent perfect but auto manufacturers used this technique back when hids just became available and were being used in older headlamp housings.

d2r bulbs are meant to be used in a reflector housing designed for hids, not to be used in a halgogen reflector.
