Default All problems with the tC?

after reading this forum for a few days ive read many posts on some major problems with the tC. What Im trying to figure out is if these problems are a wide spread thing, isolated incadents, or made up. some things ive heard are:

-missing bolts in glass roof causing creaking

-bad 5 speed transmissions

-a problem with the ABS system that makes the car skid off the road(scary one )

i would like people who have acctually had these problem to post something; and if im leaving a problem out tell me.
i dont want to hear ____ about ***** not being aluminum or something like that as its not something that would keep the car from not being safe or not working right.
i dont want posts from people saying "well its a 17K car so is gonna have problems" or " if im buying a new car is should be perfect"

i just want to hear about the REAL problems and if/how they were fixed!!

also im about to get the car in about 3 days (supposidly) and its not too late for me to back out I would like to hear from Scion tC OWNERS and Scion tC OWNERS only if the car is worth getting or does it have tooo many problems. just a short yes or no.
this would help me a lot thanks :D

p.s. if there a post like this one sorry but i dont see any.

I agree... That 5 speed problem worries me... I think it should be six speed :p I wonder if anyone is going to design some kind of swap...

if u have to ask then don't buy it... find something you feel secure with... unfortunately, you just happened to find a car forum that has been over run by inexperienced car owners who like to complain ALOT. It's a nice car IMO.

Sunroof? Tighten some bolts and problem solved. Annoying? Yes. So bad that I would rather not have my car? No.

ABS System: I've seen one post regarding this, and quite honestly, it's an issue with any ABS system on any car. If this was happening with the regularity of the sunroof issue I might have some concerns. I've driven the hell out of my tC and had no problems in the area.

I dont know what the hell you or anyone else is trying to say about the "bad" manual transmission. The only thing I can think of is that these people want to race the car, something that it was not designed for. In which case, I say: oh well.

All in all, your posting smacks of troll and I think that if you really feel this strongly about these "issues" then you should really not buy the car. Really. Go buy a Volvo or something.

im just trying to see if people are just blowing things out of proportion or if they are real problems im not attacking you or the car in anyway its just i like the car and want to make sure its not gonna suck owning it. as far as the 5 speed goes ive read posts about them being bad i dint say they were bad, and like i said post if you had a problem dont _____ about people from other post. i figured they were proably complaing about nothing but was just trying to find out if other peopke who maybe dont speak up as much are having those problems

i know theres gonna be duds no matter what car you buy or how much you spend just making sure there wasnt any real major problems

as i see it there probably isnt any, and if there is scion will recall it and fix it. i guess thats part of the point in getting a brand new car, so things like that will be fixed. :D

i love the tc, no problem here with tranny... if your too scared to get the tc because of the tranny or the sunroof.. then dont... thats one less tC that i have to see in the road plus, if it becomes a real problem... i dont have any problem with toyota/scion doing a recall

6 days after I had my new tC third gear ____ out. And NO I was not hot roddin it. I was babying it. I couldnt figure it out. It progressively got worse. Then I took it in. I just got it back this last tuesday after being in the shop for 2 weeks. Now only 5 days after having it back reverse is not working properly, They have ordered me a new tranny this time, and I have to take it in this sunday and get my loaner car. This has been ____ty. Oh ya, my sunroof doesnt make any sounds but it moves alot when it's open all the way going down the road over 40 mph. but it looks kinda normal because of the way that it opens. Have not experienced any problems with the ABS (yet!)

Regardless of these problems, I still love my tC. I wont trade it for any other car out there right now.

The thing about the guy with the ABS:

that is the only time I have ever heard anything about that, and I will tell you, I've had two close calls in my tC (damn drivers on the 41! ) and my ABS never locked up and I never lost control. This makes me wonder if that guy just lost control of his car somehow and still wanted the insurance company to cover his costs. I'm not saying that is the case, but still, it is more likely that the tC's ABS system is fine.

I don't think it is a good idea to base your purchase decision on what people say in these forums. Although there are legitimate concerns about problems with these cars, I feel this forum does not represent the majority of TCs. Sure I have seen all the posts about the sunroof noise, and ONE guy crashed his car and blamed the abs. (I think the black box will tell the story on that one). So maybe there was a bad batch of transmissions. So what? These cars are under warranty and the Scion is obligated to fix the problem. Go ahead and browse the tsb's on any vehicle on the road. I'll bet you won't buy a new car, or even used, based on that alone. So to the point, I like my TC, and haven't had a problem yet. My sunroof doesn't make noise, the 5-speed shifts fine, and I think nothing can come close for the money. Oh ya, my heater **** is aluminum.

I agree with most here, yes I have had some minor problems, but everything is fixable... and any service that is needed is usually very good through most dealers.

No serious mechanical problems after 6 days and 700 miles. Definitely a few problems, though they wouldn't deter me from buying the car again.

-Intermittent whistling noise coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the visor/winshield on the drivers side, very loud, at speeds of 65-90 mph.
Heard it twice, hoping it doesn't come back.

-Three of the four vents "move" closed on their own at full blast. Spoken to dealer about it but have not had it serviced.

-(Just noticed this yesterday) On the driver's side seat where that little handle is (the one you pull to rachet the seat forward and back to let someone in the back seat), the fabric on the seatback has started to seperate from the seat. I'll take a picture later today of it. I don't know if it's missing stitching or what...

No sunroof creaking. It does make a fair amount of noise with the cover open, but I think it's just noticeable because the rest of the car is so quiet.

My problems after 3000 miles:

Creaking roof - I will take it in to be fixed during the first oil change

The vent blades turn to the right with fan at full - I don't know if it's a big deal to me because I never used the fan at full except to confrim this problem.

The stereo faceplate squeaks - Need to get the dealer to oil it during oil change.

That's it.

If these problems were actually "major" then Toyota would issue a recall...

To me, all the problems I've been hearing about have been minor except the ABS and the defect trannies pulling out of third.

The ABS is just a normal thing and has always been debated about whether they're really safe or not. Some people still don't like it.

The tranny is my main concern but it seems that does that those that do have the problem have had their dealers order new tranny's so it's covered by the warrenty.

Other things to check/fix:
- creaking sun roof
- A/C (not enough freon on early cars)
- A/C vent moves to the right when on full blast
- too much tire pressure when taking it off the lot
- plastic **** (when it's suppose to be aluminum or something, i forget)
- stitching on driver seat
All this other stuff seems minor.
