Default another hatch noise fix suggestion

there are many different sources for our hatch rattles but for those of us that have a METAL TAPPING, CLINKING sound coming from the hatch when going over bumps, a few months back someone at the other scion fourm place posted about the noise coming from the hatch latching mechanism. i found this to be right on.

on the hatch itself pop off the panel covering the electronic latch mechanism. look closely inside and you will see the latch has a mechanism that can hit metal when the car goes over certain kinds bumps in the road. you can replicate a metallic clinking sound if you move the mechanism a little my touching it and pshing it backwards.

a fix i tried is to put a piece of foam to limit the amount of travel that that the latch mechanism will bounce or move around when you hit a bump thus reducing the chance for the latch mechanism to move around and hit metal and cause a noise.

i think toyota should redesign this part to be cushioned in rubber or some kind of insulation.

dont jam in the foam too tight though otherwise you might affect the latching action and your hatch might not latch correctly or at all.

the metal tapping, clicking noise is virtually eliminated when i did this! experiment with this and your metal, tapping noise may be totally eliminated or greatly reduces. hope this helps.

Glad that fixed it. I just put some electrical tape around the metal bar (about 5-6 wraps) and that fixed mine. Any more wraps and the hatch would not have closed properly.
