Default Another post about the TRD Springs. I need opinions, please.

Would you get the TRD Springs installed on your tC if the dealership disclosed to you that it'd be the first they've done? Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't think I want to be the guinea pig in regards to my car. :?

zoltiz got trd springs. and me and my friend installed them ina drive way. First scion we ever worked on. got the job done. one minor problem was a lose bolt that wasn't tightened enough.

Im sure they can get it done right. if not they'll fix anything they damage.

R U willing to pay what they r asking for?

The 3 dealers here in denver quoted me similar prices to install... about 8 hours on $60-80/hr.

I say give 50 bucks to a friend and you can get it done.

(Or at least I hope so, coz I'm gonna try doing it monday)

Honestly, I probably won't even go to this dealer if I decide to get the springs. Because I'd be the first person to get them, I guess they don't know how to gauge install time. They quoted me $680 for LABOR ALONE. You'd think maybe I'd get a break so they could learn how to do it, but no. They'll take an entire day and screw me over instead. I'm going to call around town tomorrow and if someone will do it cheaper I'll threaten to take my business (and the car purchase itself).

Just asked my dealer the other day about ordering the TRD springs. I was surely suprised when he told me it should only take about an hour - at about $80 - $100/hr. Seemed much more honest than a lot of other dealers. So I'll definitely be getting the springs if his word is kept!

I did mine at the dealer for around $500 (parts+labor). It was not a 1-2 hour job for them because I got to see the actual work being done. They actually had to remove the rear housing for the rear springs. It took 6 hours to get the springs on the car at the dealer. I have the paperwork in case they screw up. Drives alot better too.

I found a dealer across town who will do it for just under $500 (parts, labor, alignment). I'm planning on going there after I get the car, unless my dealer will match their price. I don't mind paying $500. But $900? That's unreasonable, in my opinion. I believe that it is a long job, but I don't think it's fair for my dealer to charge me for extra labor when they don't even know how long it'll take (since they've admitted to me that my car would be the first they've done).

No offense to your dealer's service dept. or service techs, but if I were a tech and it took me 6 hours to do a spring install with the proper tools I would really wonder if my IQ had dropped below let's say 60....

I also don't feel it's my responsibility to pay $60-$80 for the hour the tech takes to eat lunch. Are they going to be honest enough to deduct that from the install time??

If they are taking 6-8 hours to install springs it means that you are paying for them to LEARN, cause if you know what you are doing it should take 2 hours max.

So yup, I agree - we don't have to pay for techs to eat lunch, or to experiment on our cars. $500 for springs, install and alignment is somewhat reasonable, btw.

I just drove by my dealer to check the status of my car. Luckily it's coming in tomorrow and I'm picking it up on Wednesday morning.

Anyways, while I was there I brought up fact that the dealer across town will do the springs for $500 total. Some assitant manager I'd never seen before told me it was impossible, since it's a giant job and the whole back half of the car has to be ripped apart. He insisted I was probably quoted a price on an xA or xB. I wasn't in the mood to hear him bad mouth the guy across town, so I was like "well I guess you won't match his price, then?" NOPE. If this guy didn't have my car coming in tomorrow I'd probably go give the dealer across town my car sale, but I don't want to have to wait another month for another car.

tC springs installed on a driveway in the middle of Arizona take about 2 hours including time BS-ing with your buddy and a couple smoke breaks. Do the dealers that quote 6-8 hours have 65 year old ladies doing the install?

I want to do it at the dealer because of all the warranty crap. Besides, I don't have anyone that I trust enough with my car to let them do it in my driveway.

Is it a total lie what I was told about how the whole back half of the car has to be taken off, and how it's a much tougher job than lowering an xB?

xB's rear springs are much easier to do - you don't need to take the strut apart. As for the tC's back half being "taken off" - you do need to take the rear part of the interior out, which, including rear seats, takes about 10 minutes...
