i test drove auto and bought manual. instantly manual felt faster because of the low end gearing 5spd has. its not even close how fast they are if you are even an average driver.

I test drove both, wishing in my heart of hearts to get a manual since I generally hate automatics. However the auto wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I ended up going that route to make traffic jams less bothersome. I also get caught on the phone a lot in my car by clients so no stick does help. I guess in a nutshell, I still prefer manual but I didn't think the auto was bad and it seemed a good trade with how I'll be using the car.

I drove the first tC that a dealership near me got, it was an IIP auto. Yawn! I've been driving a stick for almost 10 years so I'm really biased. The auto was ok. Not horribly sluggish, nor particularly inspiring. Its only ok. I loved driving the tC stick I did a few weeks ago. The gearing is pretty good, the clutch is about 10000 times better than the POS in my current ride. Just waiting for the end of the month to get my deal made =)

i test drove an automatic at the dealer, it felt really really really slow compared to the manual.

just think of it this way, if a 5speed tC raced from 0-90mph an automatic would lose the race by at least 3 car lengths.

Tested an auto, drove a manual. Both drift fine, don't worry.

I also test drove the auto and bought the manual. I'm new to stick so I'm no great shifter yet, but the car definitely seems quicker than the automatic.

i own a auto, and also drove my friends manual. Although; it might be more "funner" i went with auto for more personal reasons. I for sure didnt wanna be shifting eveyrwhere i went. I also noticed that every single post here said that that manual "SEEMS" faster then the auto. I've read somewhere and someone tell me that in the 1/4 mile the manual beat the auto by .5 seconds. I've rode passeneger while my boy was accelerating just as fast. It seems more tourqy but seems exaclty the same to me. We both even raced, we were right next to eachother the whole way until he hit 5 gear. Yea it has more top speed. but to me its the same crap !!

Test drove a auto, bought a manual. You don't really get to step on it as fast as you want when you are driving with your parents and the salesman.

I first test drove the tC with the automatic and i was actually pleased with how quick it is without having to step on it. My moms friend bought a manual and i was driving that too, but still learning stick I didnt get to really tell that much, but from my point of view you have so much more control with a stick on how quick you go, as opposed to just stepping on it with the auto. So to answer your question, i think the manual is quicker seeing as you can have it go slower or quick on how you want to drive it... if that makes sense

I test drove an auto, will be buying a manual. In my opinion, the auto has somewhat poor throttle response. It felt that unless you really step on it, it doesn't want to go anywhere. Car felt great though.

Maybe it felt that way after my Maxima?

I test drove both twice. Couldn't make up my mind. Look at the nilage ratings for both and their weight.( the weight of the manual vs. auto) the auto is supposed to be more durable, but the manual is more fun to drive. I liked to cruise in the auto but the stir stick feels quicker to 100. It all depends on you.

Your friend needs to learn how to drive. a 5speed tC would beat a automatic tC by several car lengths from a stop or any speed roll.
