It's happened a few times on the forums. This sort of thing happens with all cars, but it *seems* like it's happening more with ours. However, forums give that illusion often times. Was it open? Did something go through it?

Look here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...ct/results.cfm

You want to look up investigations.. by vehicle. They list it as a Toyota Scion tC.

They are investigating this as a possible candidate for a recall. I have heard of a few others doing this, and it seems they all complained of the creak/pop beforehand.

thanks for the link, that is exactly what mine did. I was on the interstate, and out of nowhere's it just shattered. I wasn't following behind anybody and my windows were up and the roof was closed. This time of the year it starts warming up and the air quality in Louisiana is horrible. So really you can only drive around with em down and roof open early in the morning or late evenings.
Some glass fragments fell on me and in the passenger seat. I pulled over to check what the hell happen, could not find any trace of something hitting it or anything. Drove straight to the dealership. They did handle the matter in a swiftly manner. And they also gave me a rental while the car is being repaired. I would of rather had my tC to drive around for the memorial day weekend however.

Good deal. I am glad they took care of it. Apparently some dealers have heard of the investigation, or at least have the common sense to know when a warranty issue is sitting in their shop..

Same here. I had no issues with the moon roof during the winter. The only problem I had was when we DID get more than a foot of snow, my car would start "plowing" the snow.

Thank you for the input dex and kyleb350. Good to know it can handle a Buffalo winter!

Kyle, you should start charging for those free plows!

yep happened to me. Your dealer at least took care of you, I had to rely on insurance to cover it. I waited 2 weeks, and they're not renewing my policy when it's up in july apparently.

Yeesh. Any details? A few questions for you...

What were the circumstances when your sunroof shattered?

What did the dealer say about this when you showed it to them?

Is your insurance covering this under collision or comprehensive coverage, and if it's collision, why?

I'm gonna bump because i think everyone that has experienced the glass roof shattering in anyway, should go to the NTSHA website and file a complaint. I was looking through all their research docs so far, it on file, there are only 3 incidents associated with this investigation. Since the investigation started, there are now only a total of 5 shatter related incidents on record for the NTHSA. I think we should raise that number, and hence the awareness of this issue.

Sunroof shattered here also. Driving 40mph, sunroof closed. No signs of anything hitting it either. She's bringing the car to the dealership tomorrow.
