I think that the tC is a great car in its own right, but there are some things that I wish could have been done differently.

Guys, please don't take this too seriously as I know that the car has already been put in production, so some of these ideas can't be taken into consideration, but we're not here to bash each other over such trivial things.

So here goes:

(1) Drop the weight a bit. I'd say a target weight of about 2,750 would have been killer. Probably would have picked up a couple of MPG as well
(2) Make the heavy moonroof optional. I personally like the moonroof, but some people don't care for them. And I'm sure that many people would gladly give up the added weight, decreased headroom and hotter cabin temperatures
(3) The plastic radio cover. I thought it to be rather cheesy and adds nothing functionally to the car. Make the radio flush, end of discussion.
(4) Make the stock ride height a smidge lower. Don't tease us with the show car being all lowered and perfect, then deliver production models sitting an inch or more higher.

I couldn't have put it better myself. The weight was one of my biggest concerns.

 

There are a lot of little things I wouldn't mind being changed...but no car is perfect. And after all improvements = more $$$. A couple of things besides those you already mentioned:
I wouldn't mind them making a chrome-looking grille standard
Also, making the MUTE button on the CD player actually PAUSE the CD! I don't want to have to keep pressing the power button every time i need to pause the CD!
Oh and finally a little more trunk space.

Unfortunately, most of that extra weight is in the actual frame (to stiffen the car because of the moonroof). Still, I would also like to see a more conventional roof so that the weight could be lower. Also, if this is going to be the Celica replacement then Toyota will have to ante up with a 6-speed/200-225bhp performance model.

Oh yea, I completely forgot about that CD player: where is the pause button? One of the most inane oversights in its design...

 

I was thinking to myself, 'Would it be cool if they made a high end tC?" but then I thoguht that it would totally contradict the whole idea/ideology/concept of Scion.

I pictured a tC that maybe had a slightly longer hood, leather standard, different color interior, 18" alloy rims standard, and maybe around 227 horses.

But for the current tC, I wish that there could be more head room. I currently drive a 4-dr sedan so i'm used to 4 drs but I think I can get used to 2. I would like it if the radio didn't have a cover. I've been to several dealers numerous times, just to sit in the car and i've test driven an auto and a 5 spd. I wish the car also was lower, other then that, thats all I can think of. I agree with your other points to, like the weight and everything.

 

Aside from my current gripes about the plastic head unit cover and the craptastic "pull down shade" sunroof cover needing to be replaced; a thought just ran through my mind.

Replace the sunroof with a T-Top. I've always been a fan of the t-top. It should go well with the tC, and should not be difficult to do, even keeping the "glass roof" concept with the car.

 

I must say this car is very close to perfect for me. I was thinking the other day about what I would want in a car if I was in a focus group for a car company or something like that. Everything I could think of decribed the tC.

The only thing I would change would be to make the CD cover a little more sturdy. But this is hardly a deal breaker. Anything else that they tried to change about the car would have more negative then positive benifits.

It would like another inch or so of head room, but that would cause them to have to make the car taller and look goofy and not handle as well.

It would be nice if they made some more things optional but that would raise the cost of production by complicating manufacturing (one of the ways Scions are so cheap).

It would be nice if the car weighed less but there is no way I would give up the solid feel and quiteness of this car for a few hundred pounds.

It would be great to have a bigger engine/more power/RWD (even though the tC has plenty IMO) but that would drasticly raise the cost of the car and also not be able to use off the shelf parts. RWD is heavier, takes up more room, and is not as good in bad weather.

I could care less about a pause button my after market stereo in my last was the same way, and I will probably replace this one in a few years anyways. The sunroof cover feels fine to me, I dont see any way to do a better one considering that there is not room for a solid cover to slide away.

 

An optional glass roof would get my vote, and my cash in the form of a tC purchase.

I LOVE the idea suggested above regarding a T-top. Not sure if it would look good, but I really like T-tops... maybe a T-top performance Solara coupe?

 

the cd cover is great i like that you can cover your aftermarket so it makes the thief think like... would i risk stealing this if it could be a stock stereo . so then they wouldnt even try or be less likely to try...

but i would like the ac vents changed i would like them to point more to the driver and front passenger not so much just straight and also move the fan blade that control the air moving side to side to the fron and the blades that move the air up and down in the back ... it would make it more efficent at blowing the air to you

 

A sturdier CD cover gets my vote since mine is squeaking. A factory tint would've been nice and dropping the car to the height it's been advertised would also be nice.

A more SOLID, DURABLE sunroof cover that fits the current panoramic sunroof design

 

5 speed auto/6speed manual for better gas milage....

 

i want the to have steel wheel and wheel cover instead of alloy wheel with low profile tire. i love the stock wheel, just..i park the car on street, the alloy wheel get scrach easily, and most people who into mods will change the wheel to aftermarket one anyway. so why not put steel wheel on, with normal tires, cut the price down 500, that makes better mileage and a lot of people happy.

i also want a corolla engine..... well, make it optional or have another tC-e or somthing that has a smaller engine.... to have better mileage. i don't really need 160hp for communiting, or maybe 2.0 inestead of 2.4. city mileage for tC is kind of low.

i want 4 door..... why not just bring the avensis over... corolla just look too old and over price for me, that's why i get the tC.

 

I have just two things I want chagned. Otherwise, it's a great car for the money.

1. Make the Moon/Sun roof optional. No good has ever come from cutting a massive hole in the roof of a car.

2. A lower final drive ratio. Make 5th a deep overdrive for highway milage.

 

T-Tops?? When's the last time I've seen T-tops on a car? I thought those things leaked like hell?
