Auto or Manual...
I am having a seriously hard time debating on which to get...
I want all the benifits of Manual, but I do live in a stop in go town, which would really get on my nerves...
Auto would also be better for all my relatives who would eventually be driving my car...
Agh! I am lost... :?:

eventually as a hand me down or eventually as in they're going to also be driving your car? if you're letting alot of people drive it, i'd go with the auto. less chance of them messing something up.
otherwise it's just what you prefer. i got a manual myself. i enjoy shifting and it keeps me from getting bored which keeps me from falling asleep. it's simply more fun

This has been argued to death, check the other thread on this page.
You'll find most of the responses you'll get here will be 5spd owners telling you to get a 5spd. If thats what you want, great. But if you arent sure what you are getting into with a 5spd, I just hope you dont end up like those in the other threads that are regretting it. Test drive the auto, see how you feel then, I think it rocks but thats just my opinion. Ultimately, you have to make this decision and then live with it, so think it over thoroughly.

The fact that so many people say auto just saddens me to no end.
If you have any interest in your car, at all, get a manual. If you ever plan on doing anything to your car get a manual. The number of people that just regret getting auto's is just huge. I know I did, then I got hosed when I traded it in for a proper car.
Seriously, this is not a decision. If you have any interest in actually driving your car, you need to get a manual.
If you only need something to get you through traffic, ride the bus.

Definitely true. Manual drivers will tell you get a manual and automatic drivers will tell you get an automatic. There's a question you need to answer before you choose.
Do you like to ride, or do you like to drive?
I don't mean it in an insulting way or anything like that, and there's no wrong answer. It's perhaps a bit overdramatic as well, but hey. If you can't be philosophical about your car, you don't need a hot little item like a Scion.
A driver will prefer a manual 9 out of 10 times because they like to feel the car respond to them. A rider will be the opposite way, preferring an auto because they would just like to get to their destination with as little hassle as possible. Both ways are fine of course. Just answer that question for yourself, and you'll have the answer to your original question. By the way, here's what you do about relatives. Teach them to drive a manual, but if you can help it, don't teach them in your new baby. ;)
Good luck in your journey to enlightenment my friend!

I currently drive auto. I'll probably get a manual because:
1. Its cheaper.
2. you get that feeling of power once you get the hang of working the clutch.
3. Not many people drive manual, so I can avoid having to be an _______ when someone wants to test drive my baby.
4. I've pretty managed to learn how to avoid the traffic, so stop and go isn't a big deal for me.

Here is my logic on choseing to drive the 5-speed:
Manual Advantages:
-More Power (less drive train loss)
-Faster (shift closer to the optimal time, not when the auto wants to)
-Cheaper to buy
-Cheaper to repair
-Better gas mileage (not as true in the tC but it means the 5-speed is geared that much faster)
-More fun to drive
-More Control of the car
Automatic Advantages:
-Can be lazy

That's right, there's little room in this modern world for stick-shift automobiles. In reality they are not more efficient, they don't get better gas mileage, they don't give you more control on ice and snow and (here it comes, folks!) they are not faster! Believe it or not, they are not as reliable as automatics.

Any debate? Basically every advantage of getting a manual is thrown out here. If that's the case, we should all get automatics.
