Default Baby Seat in TC practical?

So I have recently found out that my wife is pregnant. Great news, but now she is really wanting me to trade in my Flint mica TC for an SUV. I can understand her reason as far as practicality goes, but will be taking a bit of a hit on it for trade in value. Original dealership offered me $13.5 k for a vehicle in perfect condition with 11k miles on it. My question is, how difficult is it to get a baby seat in the back, and then baby buckled up. Would it be more practical to keep a new car, or take a hit for a used SUV. Payments would be about the same.

P.S. XA, XB are out of the question. Is it me, or are woman difficult to live with sometimes.

Wow, congrats on your upcoming child!

It would be more than practical I think. There is plenty of room. Now, an SUV would be easier to get access to the rear, and would provide more room for stuff (strollers, toys, baby bag etc.. I am picturing the look on your face thinking of all of this stuff ) so it technically would be a better idea, but I dont see it being a big deal with just one child in a tC.

Anyway, thats my .02. Again, congrats!

Keep the tC and tell her to get a different car ;) J/K
I had to take my brother's wife and their 5 yr old daughter somewhere in my tC...wasn't too bad, plenty of room with a child-seat. It's just a lil more of a pain (access wise) than a 4-door. It would suck if you had to get rid of a perfectly fine car. I'd keep the car for a couple years, wait til your kid gets older, then upgrade, but I'm not a truck/SUV type of person.

BTW, congrats.

Why is the xB out of the question?
It's a compact with all the practicalities of an SUV but without the horrid gas mileage.

as far as booster seats they're cool plenty of leg room but as far as rear facing child seats your wife has to seat behind the driver since the front seat will be too far up to seat on. besides if your going on a long trip...your wife in the back isn't bad, she can feed the baby while your driving. hope this helps.

I got a tC for the simple fact that this will probably be the only time that I will be able to ever have a coupe again in my life lol... My son loves the rear sunroof and there is plenty of room for him... and the side airbags makes me feel better and no windows to open or close by his mischieveousness. Plenty of wind in his hair from the passenger's window. And no door to try to open too. The side pockets are great for sippy cups and other toys/snacks and if he's tired I can always recline the seat for him hehe.

I am just freaked out of the possibility of the rear roof shattering with my kid in the back.... Knock on wood.

Its a tough decision. I love the TC, but looking at the point of me stumbling around in the back trying to get a rear facing child seat in place.

P.S.
Nice job with the leather.

Forget the SUVs and Vans! This is the perfect time to tell her that you really need to get a very practical four door! A Mazda RX8!! Those rear suicide doors will come in handy!

Its pracitical only if you have a baby. don't think you can pull that, "I act like I have a baby to pick up chicks all Seinfieldien-like." It only works for so long.

O, you are going to have a baby. Thats what I get for not reading the thread before I post.

I am the sunroof glass breakage expert when it comes to the tC, just ask Suburban Scion. lol If the front panel breaks glass is not likely to get in the back area. If the main panel breaks, even if it's in the closed position and right above your head, glass is not likely to get in the back. The glass that does get in the car wont be in sharp shards, it will be rounded off peaces. You can rest easy.

Congratulations!

I also recently found out that my Fiancee is pregnant. I have two children from a previous relationship, so now we have some decisions to make too. Right now my 9 year old and 3 year old fit in my tC with no problem. We also have an Accord, but when we roll the tC we have no trouble getting my son out of his seat. Luckily he is big enough and old enough not to need a rear facing seat anymore, and we found a booster seat for the car that isnt too big and it's easy to get the thing in and out of the cars when we switch.

So, so far so good. Now we have the new baby due in February, and we are probably going to get an Odyssey. But I know there are times when I will need to drive the tC, but I guess I'll just have to work that out cause I ain't gettin rid of my car! lol. Maybe I'll just have to get it stretched, limo style! that would be wild, LOL.

Well, I have been thinking about trading for a 2004-05 Matrix. Due to size over XA. My wife is pushing me towards a V8 Durango, but I dont really want that gas bill. Anybody here have experience with the Matrix?

Matrix is a nice car. Good space, Corolla reliability.

What is it with women and huge SUVs? They're not any safer (well, I guess if you are a soccer mom who wants to talk on her cell phone while drinking a soy vanilla latte and handing her kids toys while going 60mph on the Interstate, then it's safer...)

Congrats on the baby. But any two door car is not very good for kids, much less dealing with car seats. I hope you have a good back!!

Trust me, the kid is going to cost you a lot more monthly then you realize and you don't want to add a larger gas bill and car payment on top of that. Unless you make a lot anyway so its no big deal. I would seriously consider the xB. We bought it for a family car and with two car seats in the back my wife can still sit in the middle and feed the 10 month old the bottle comfortably. Stroller sits upright on one side in the back and theres plenty room for more junk on a long trip. The xB is the ultimate family vehicle!!1! (for less ). I don't think it'd be too bad with the tC, but it won't be as convenient and trust me its going to get dirty and messy with a kid.

but as far as my daughter's concern(1 month) she only rides in the xB cause there's no room for my wife in the front if the rear facing child seat is in the tC(tried it but no worky )

again congrats on your new baby....hope everything works out for you man.

I saw some guy with two in the back and I just kind of stared and it seemed to me that he did it with ease.

Let's skip the arguments and get to the point: YOU ARE GOING TO BUY A NEW SUV. Wether you keep the tC or not is up to you (hint: you can sell it on your own for $15K at least).

So continuing on the practical theme, July 4th is gonna be a great time to buy a car because of all the sales. For example, the GM employee discount for everyone. I'm sure they have some good SUVs to choose from. btw, some of the small/medium sized SUVs are not too bad on the gas mileage, for example CR-V is 23/29 mpg !

this is true you will need a bigger car especially if the tC is your families only transport. trust me when you need bigger space ex. strollers, diaper bags, your wife's "STUFF"(half of our baggage including the kids is hers) the tC's not going to cut it...this is what toyota want...is for our generation to "upgrade" to either the toyota or lexus line when we get "older"

just my 2 cents,

The Toyota Prius seems to be selling like hot cakes around here. But it's damn ugly IMO.
