Default Bad Luck????

I have had my Silver Scion TC for about 6 weeks now and it feels like its been in the shop then it has been in my possession.

2 weeks after buying it someone wrecked the front end of it in a hit and run at the hotel I manage in the parking lot. Had to have it in the shop for a week while the hood, front bumper cover, and one light lens assembly was replaced and painted.

Now today on the way to work I took what I think was a rock to the glass wind guard for the sunroof and it shattered the entire piece of glass.

I have to yet again take it to the dealer to have them figure out if it was a defect or my fault and says they haven't heard of anything like it happening before.

The service manager said it would cost between $150 - $230 to replace it if found being my fault. This sucks.

Anyone have any ideas? I can't believe a rock would cause the entire pice to shatter and explode. Damn glass cut my head in three places.

Damn that sucks.

I've heard of people saying that something like that could happen, but I haven't heard of anyone's glass wind guard thing could actually shatter.

Hope it'll look like new and you get a stroke of good luck.

They should have used some sort of shatter resistant glass up front i mean since it's pointed up like that ya know? or used a plastic piece that looked like glass. Seems silly to me they didnt think of that in the first place. I Guess they wanted to keep there whole "Glass Roof" saying. Anyways that sucks man. Hope they see that it wasnt your fault and cover it under warranty.

Just got off of the phone with the Scion Dealer here in N.E. Florida and since it was apparantly a rock that caused the damage that it would not be covered under warranty.

Total estimated cost of repair - $836.09

Service manager said the part alone was $589.00

They told me to call my insurance - but its not worth it with having a $500.00 deductable and having this be my second claim on the car within a months time.

Sux0rs for me......

The glass and the rack it is on and the rails that are on it that attach to the main sunroof assembly is all one piece apparantly.

Glass coverage on the warranty or from my insurance? My insurance policy would cover it with $0.00 if it had been the winshield. Unfortunatlly they do not consider the wind guard a part of that.

Still SOL on the money at this point.

I'm thinking that's why the owners manual says not to drive over 45 mph with the sun roof open, because of weaker glass on top. Rocks and bad drivers are a cars worst nightmare!

They are screwing you then! That is part of the sunroof, so it should be covered under glass. I would fight them tooth and nail on that one! The sunroof and ALL windows are covered on standard glass coverage.

Well I have my car back. New glass, assembly and all.

Total $842.89

I can see this being a big issue for the car. I hope it doesn't happen to others but I have a feeling it will be more problematic as more TCs are on the road and the summer months come.

Good luck all.

What size rock do you think we are talking about here? You say you weren't sure it was a rock, so are we talking pea size? or larger? As far as I know, tempered, coated glass is pretty resistant to shatter, usually it just makes a small crack which can be filled with windshield epoxy under vacuum. If it is as flimsy as it is made out to be here, small hailstones would destroy the winddeflector, sunroof and moon roof. Any more insight on what hit the deflector MySilverTC?

from the impact area on the glass its about the size of a navy bean. And from there it shattered the entire piece. While I was driving it was just a loud pop and glass then went everywhere.
