Before I take it to the dealer...
I would like to ask you guys a few questions about air conditioners. Recently, I've noticed that my a/c gives out hot/warm air, even though it's on cold. My brother has a tC same year, and his is working perfectly. I'm just wondering, since I live in Vegas and it's freaking hot in here, has this happened to any of you? It still occurs during the night when the car is cooled.
Same problem here. I got it fixed about a year ago. The condenser doesn't get cold enough, or takes 10-15 minutes to get cold. Just go to the dealer and have them perform the Air Conditioning recall. After that it should blow ice cold.
have the dealer check the level of the refridgerant in the a/c system. If it's under or over it won't cool properly. Shouldn't take long to check it at the dealer. They will also use a thermometer to see what the temp it's blowing out of the vents. And how long it took to get there. either way it's testable.
A TSB was issued in Nov. 2004 to fix the problem in 2005 tC.
And if you're like me, you're wonder "what exactly did they change to fix?"
Like someone mentioned earlier, its purely due to the amount of refrigerant in the A/C unit.
A/C was originally designed for 400+/-30 g of refrigerant.
-->Thus minimally you're car could have only had 370g in the system.
-->Probably a cost savings inititive.
Nov. 2004 TSB changed refrigerant mass to 430+/-30g.
-->After this change, there should never be less than 400g in the system.
However my question is this: Why do I have a similar slow cool-down issue with a 2006 tC??? I'm getting it checked a week from now at the dealer...just hope it is refrigerant only (don't like the thought of the dealer tearing out my whole A/C unit and replacing...I can only imagine the dash rattles if that happened).

Oh yeah...and I can run the A/C at max settings (with the re-circ mode on) and it never gets cold.
I had a 2002 corolla before, and I could never leave the A/C on at even the lowest setting because it got super-cold. I always cycled the A/C on for 5 or 10 minutes at the lowest setting, and then turned it off after 5 or so minutes after my hands went numb.

When I was driving my mom, I showed her my A/C problem. She took a look at it and just told me that I forgot to turn on the A/C button, that's when I had a flashback of me pressing the button a few days before because I thought it did nothing. Haha, good going for me.
