besides powdercoating, can i gloss-coat rims with like a black gloss? cause i want the axis hiro's, but they don't have them in gloss black. so I wanted to have them painted.

 

Powder coating is what you want...durability and quality, most places will guarantee on chipping and so forth.

 

haha yeah dude you can rattle can them but after a few miles it will be obvious. the first time you wash the car will be when it really goes bad. get them powdercoated, it'll cost you but it's worth it.

 

yeah powdercoating will last longer and keep it's color like new if you take care of it. as for painting it will fade, chip and well you do save money but it's gonna look bad after a few weeks.

 

I rattle canned my stock rims and they came out good...then like 2 months later...they faded. So I redid them and clear coated them and they are glossy and black with no chips and clean reallly easy. I've had them for about 4 months now with no problems.

 

but i mean, if i powdercoat them, will they be a flat color? or can i get them in a shiny color? cause i want gloss black. but as i said, they don't come in gloss black.

 

yes they come in glossy black because of the overspray they use to protect it from chipping or fading.

 

Yea the clear coat makes them glossy, either way you go, if you clear, they will be glossy...period

 

alrite. last questions. how much is it usually to get them done? and where can i get them done at?

 

that is for you to look around your area because your gonna spend about 2x more just for the shipping back and forth of the rims.

 

I do powdercoating on the side... I have seen prices range from 50 a wheel to 100+ a wheel... and yes you can get a high gloss black which is a one pass black, the one I use as a gloss black is 95% gloss...

And just to describe to you how durable a good coat of powdercoat is, when I went to sandblast a practice coat I did on a piece of metal it took me over an hour just to sandblast a small piece of metal lol... so you shouldn't have to worry about rock chips..

 

I was thinking about powdercoating my stockers black for track days, but do not want gloss, can they do a matte finish with powdercoating?

 

They can do pretty much any color...

yes there are tons of different variations of black, from flat to semi-gloss to matte, to high gloss.
