BLOWN ENGINE - pics pg 2 - OH 335i FTW
Well i only have 9 hours of ownership of the tC left and i thought i'd let you all in on what's been going on with my car.
2 weeks ago was thanksgiving, i was down in missouri with my family (obviously) and was going to drive back home. At about 1230pm just north of STL my car sputtered and died. I tried to start it over and it wouldn't crank which led me to believe it was an alternator / battery issue. Hell my car only has 40k on it so it couldn't have been anything major right? So I called AAA and had the car towed up to springfield where we went to firestone all service whatever. Anyway they charged the whole system and found it was not electrical at all. So now it being 6pm on a saturday night, a dealer isn't open, no rental car places are open i'm ____ed. So i get a room and spend saturday night in bum ____ illinois. I rent a car early sunday morning and get back to chicago sunday around 1pm.
Monday i get a call from the dealer asking what happened so i told him. He had the mechanic do some work and ultimately the spark plugs were fouled. Oh ____ easy fix i'll be down tomorrow. haha So they put new plugs in and they fouled immediately. ____ so they drained the oil and found a ton of metal in the oil. great so my engines ____ed.
Tuesday they tear apart the engine and i spun EVERY SINGLE BEARING. don't ask me how this is possible (THE ENGINE IS STOCK) they also find out that all the journals on the head are ____ed. So basically my entire engine is gone. So great, it went from a 2 day fix to a 2 week fix. either way time goes by and today i drive down after work to pick it up. They showed me my bill 8457.39. oh well warranty ftw. I got to keep a rod and a piston but to this day we don't know what was wrong with it. Oh well i'll have my new 335i in a couple of hours. get me out of this devil scion that has the engine blow up at 40k.

No mention of your awesome friend who ditched work early to meet you at the dealership to help you return your rental car?!?! I feel so unloved.
II got to see all the carnage that used to be the stock engine at the dealership when I picked up Ben.
When he says every bearing, he means EVERY bearing. Main bearings, cam bearings etc. All of em.
The mechanic thought it originated in the balance shafts. The assembly is driven by a steel gear, the shaft that has the weights that rotate does not have a hardened steel gear. That non hardened steel gear was exploded. He thought that the metal from that got into the oil, and overwhelmed the oil filter.
Bearings do not last real long when lubricated with bits of metal.
How did the removal of your stereo go? Judging by the time this was posted, it does not seem like it took too long.
Looking forward to seeing the new ride on saturday!
