Default brake rust question

You know on the disk after water gets on it it starts to rust. Well I was washing my car today and it was maybe a 45 min process and by the time I finished washing/drying my car, the brake discs turned to the orange rusty color. I know this isn't a big deal, drive and use brakes, the rust goes away. But is it supposed to rust that quickly?

Yeah, it's normal. Check out your car after it's rained the night before. Even a light rain, and your rotors will be all rusted over.

I've even seen my Scion's rotors rust over after parking it in the rain, getting coffee, and coming back to the car.

Might have something to do with the density of the rotors, but I'm by no means an expert.

well think about it its completely exposed steel that is constantly being sanded down. i hate that sound though of scraping the rust off when you first start braking.

i think they will be "true" in 40k miles.. the cheap ones are honda.. they actually have a TSB on their rotors. When they get replaced at the dealer, the dealer has to true them up! Unreal.. I have a set of brembos i put on my old civic and never needed anything! You want cheap.. okay I'm going off on Honda.. I just had so much crap with their products in 8 years.. glad to be with toyota and some quality..
