Default Broken Fog Light

Hi Everybody...

New to this site... I purchased my '06 scion back in May and have been very happy with the car so far.

Yesterday I hit a rock or something and one of my OEM foglights broke. I called the dealership and they told me that there is no replacement part for the broken fog light and that I have to buy the whole set all over again just as if I didn't have any fog lights installed (2 fog lights, grill, harness and switch) Quote: 380.00 + 100.00 for the installation.. That is insane ... I read here that other owners had the same problem,

Do you know of any other aftermarket fog lights that look the same and that I can buy only one and it is a simple to install ? and I don't have to donate a kidney to pay for it .. If you do know do you have a part number + website ?

I read somewhere in this site that maybe the fog lights for the Toyota Matrix will fit ?

Thanks

I read about the Matrix too, but I won't confirm that.
When you do replace the lens, buy a plastic film over it like I did from headlightarmor.com, it's a great cheap insurance.
Try a search on the tC exterior forum

there is a cheaper Ebay kit out there than is sorta similiar, but the OEM one is still much better.... It is lame that they don't make seperate components though.

trdsparks has them for $340 and since u already have all the wiring in place all you have to do is just remove the old foglight assembly and plug in the new one, cant be hard

Hey Guys found it..

They do sell it as a replacement part (Driver side)

http://www.mcgeorgeparts.com/PD-8122....aspx?MakeID=1

Just placed the order ...

Will get her sometime next week and I will install it myself ...

I will follow lowelcam's advice ... and buy the plastic film to protect the fog lights:

headlightarmor.com

I will take pics and post of the whole replacement process ..

Thanks !!

I went through the same thing.. the dealer said they would have to break up a set and sell me one for about 150.. half the cost of the entire kit. I said no way and called scion customer care, who worked with the dealer and toyota corp to set a price for a replacement fog, which they agreed should be offered. I got it for $97 through the dealer. So they are full of it really. This was about a year or so ago.

This week.. the same one was hit by a rock and shatterd... good luck for me huh?

I found one on car-part.com today for $50... the only one listed on there.. so sorry to anyone needing a driver side lamp :D I have the rockblocker overlays ordered to help prevent this a little next time.

Hm... well things have changed. The one I was supposed to get today I find out never existed at the salvage yard. So I call my dealer, who says the new price is $180 each for them. So I have AGAIN started a complaint with scion customer care about this. I will end up getting mine from somewhere else, but they are ripping people off straight up.

Well, final word from scion is that toyota set a price (did not tell me what it is) and the dealers can jack it up as high as they like. So it looks like I will be going through mcgeorges on this one. All I can say to anyone new is NEVER BUY THE FOGS THROUGH TOYOTA/SCION. One will eventually get broken and you will be screwed by the dealer to get a replacement. It is sad too... I like the look of these fogs.

? They dont list any parts for the tC. If you use the search there for scion they list stuff for the xB/BB, but nothing for the tC. Where did you see that part ?

Hmmm, well if you specifically search for tC they come up... not a very good website.

Those do not look like the OEM's to me.. they look more like the cheaper ebay knockoffs, and they only sell the entire set. I needed one fog. I have it on order from mcgeorges and recieved my overlays last night. So I should be set.

The Ebay one's are more of a driving light than a fog light.

Take a look at this page:
http://www.piaa.com/Lamps/LampSelectionGuide.html

The OEM ones are like the Fog/Foul weather lamps.
The Ebay ones are like the Dichroic Driving Lamps.

It is cake. Remove the splash guard underneath the car (some push pins and a few screws), reach up and remove the harness connector, snap the light out of the socket and snap the new one back in. Then reconnect and put the gaurd back on. If you have super skinny arms, you may be able to do it from the top, but you wont be able to see how it snaps in so it will be tough for the first time to do it that way. I have done two, and it took me about 20 - 30 min each time. It isnt too hard.
