Default CAI: Short vs Long

Or, cold vs warm

Has anyone tried both on their tC?
If so, what was your opinion on the two?
I don't want to go through the bumper-loosening, and thought I'd go for the shorty option, but then the intake is hot air.

So, opinions welcomed.

Dont quote me on this....but its something like:

Short-ram:
Louder sound
Different sound/feel through the torque band

Coldair:
Softer but distinct CAI sound

Well both wont yield much gains or differences, right?
(I actually don't have one, but planning on getting one)

Thanks.
Just trying to decide if the extra effort on the long is worth it.

if you want, just install the short and see how you like it. If not try the cold-air set up.

And finally if you dont like the cold-air just take it off. Do one every weekend and by the 3rd week, you will know what one you like

i have my Injen as a short ram...because a CAI doesnt give you that much HP so i wanted a good sound that went along with my Tsudo N1 catback....and it sounds mean as hell...so i go for short ram, but try to somehow make a heat shield for the air filter

I have plans to get the Injen intake, but leave it in short ram form. I also have plans to get the vented Seibon hood, and the way the intake is positioned makes it perfect to bring cool air into the filter, which is right below the hood vent. I dunno if it'll actually work, but it seems logical to me...

tons of threads on this subject. i have an injen cai and have only ran it as a cai and only plan on running it as a cai. i drilled out holes in the faux grill in the bumper on the side of the cai to allow more air to flow directly into it. how useful that actually was, im not too sure, but i imagine it to be better than no holes.

yep got the injen cai as well..
i read on another forum a while back and what they said was
short ram is better for the all around driving cuz it gives better gains in the lower rpms
and cai is better for the higher rpms

It's just window dressing!!!

Most people buy the intake for noise...read through a lot of the intake threads and you'll notice most owners comment on how nice or sweet or mean it sounds.

The performance gains are so small that I'd advise you to either get one because you like the sound or save up for some forced induction.

EDIT: If you do get one, get one that sounds better to you.

I initially had injen CAI but then converted it to short ram. Because...

Cons of CAI:
1) I didn't like the throttle response lag with the CAI.
2) worrying about hydro locking

Pros of SRI:
1) Less rattling
2) no worrying about hydrolocking
3) easier access to clean the filter
4) MUCH faster throttle response
5) Butt dyno is about the same

IMO short ram is worthless for performance. You will be sucking hot air from under the hood vs. cold down in the fender.

As for hydrolocking when was the last time you actually heard about that happening? It takes a large amount of water to cause any issues.
