Try to clean you r engine monthly if you can and it will stay new looking,I get a nice paint brush from Home depot and brush off the sand and dirt out of the crevacesand then wipe down everything on top and front and back that I can reach, water has never been sprayed on my motor and car is 18 months old and motor looks clean as day one.

from getting flamed by many known detailers on other forums basically i learned that you want to spray the engine down when its not hot. but when you spray use a mist from the sprayer. so basically after you have misted the engine you want to shoot degreaser with a spray bottle on the engine and wait about 2-5 mintues and then use a wheel brush and sproke brush to start cleaning. after you have scrubbed and think your done use the mist and speray down the engine.

Black Magic has Engine Degreaser & Shine in one can.

I've used it when the car was still warm. I used old windex bottle with water to wash it off. (Wires and water: seems like dangrous combo. JMO) Let's just say I developed nice burn spots and buring smell that lasted for a month. But it gave really nice shine after.

I should of waited when the engine was ice cold then do it. Since our regional dealers are already doing shows next week; I'll use it again but this time ICE COLD and wait for few hours after starting the car. I'll let you peeps know how better the product is.

Ditto we spray simple green on our helicopter engines and let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute then just pressure wash it off. Works great out here in the desert. We don't dilute it however.

I use Simple Green and a tooth brush. Let the engine cool and then spray the simple green on first (before any water). I don't dilute it down, I spray it on straight from the bottle. Scrub it down, and rinse (don't blast it with water, a light mist).

Another Tip, clean the engine first before the car, that way if you get some of that dirt and oil on the car you just wash it off after wards.

And since you are running a SRI, cover it with a plastic shopping bag, Depending on the filter it maybe oil based and you don't want de-greaser near that. Plus water and soap are probably not good for any filter. So save your filter with the cheap and free plastic bag you get when shopping.
