Car of the YEar?
But does the new Honda have the same potential as a b series? Is it an older design that has been out for awhile or a new design that lacks the potential like the 2ZZ?
Please excuse my ignorance, I just don't know much about honda's in general.

The car of the year award usually goes to a car with will set the standard for futures cars, introduces new and exciting technology and will set off the emotions of the public. As nice as the TC is, it isn't any of those things. Its a damn fine little car that will get plenty of attention and plenty of sales but its not going to light the automotive world on fire.
The Civic won because it truly is an icon in the industry. I read somewhere that Honda sells more Civics alone than some car companies sell of all their models combined. Plus, you can buy everything from a basic coupe, to a fully loaded family sedan to a mini sports car to an enviro-friendly green car.
While I am not a huge fan of the Civic, I can definitely understand why it won. If the Civic hadn't won, then the pontiac Solstice should have.

at 20mph, when you are going through a corner, youre going to be reving that civic up to around 5 or 6k rpm, when its all horsepower, and you will need that LSD for traction.

and last but not least the guy that wants to know about the k20's b18c5's and 2zz's pm me ill give you all the info i know if you realy want to know
I don't really see how a 2seat sports car (solstice) could win COTY. That kind of contradicts the whole reasoning behind the civic winning the award, doesn't it. The only great thing about the solstice is the price.

and the fact that it is just as good as the miata at every thing except fule efficantsy so myabe it should be roadster of the year???
The Solstice (and upcoming Saturn Sky) are turn-around cars for GM. I almost bought one - but the two-seat thing killed it at the end...
It's a fine car - and nice looking, and when they start making enough of them, the price will be cheap for what you get.
I still think the tC is better in many ways though.
Check out the Sky - it looks way more cool and looks to have a more radical interior...

So how is my statement silly? when the civic is coming through a corner at a high speed, do you expect both wheels to get traction while its making its peak HP? You will need the inside wheel to spin slower than the outside to keep traction. i
never said anything about driving straight. In theory, it shouldnt have anything to do with driving straight, but we all know that real world applications arent perfect (something Gran Turismo can not teach you), and thus an LSD does help in launching the car.
I feel the LSD WILL help straight line situations. I ask again...why do we 'always' put a posi (LSD)in a drag car? BETTER TRACTION at the launch. Yes, it does have to do with cornering, but my argument is to those who say it is not for straight shots. I totally disagree with these statements.
Just think about it before you start flaming...

An LSD will help in straight conditions. You don't have even weight distribution over the two front wheels, so there is a good chance that one of them will break loose before the other.
Other things that will mess with the traction on such a car.
Axle twist. Your axles are different lengths. This is the cause of torque steer. I imagine this can cause one wheel to lose traction before the other as well.
Driver weight. You don't sit in the middle of the car, so your presence in the vehicle changes the balance. My 240# probably does more damage than one of you 150# punks (LOL)
Do FWD cars twist at takeoff like many RWD cars. If so, isn't' one drive wheel going to have less traction?
Those are some of my rought draft thoughts on the topic of an LSD in a FWD car.

Just out of curiousity, to the OP, what does the fact that the tC is a scion, and not a Honda have to do with getting COTY?
Honda's have a very solid reputation, so does Toyota, I don't see how you can bash a car for being a Honda....what that says to me is that it has a proven history of reliability. I've owned a 1991 Toyota Celica GT that ran until 194,068 miles without a single problem, hell, it was even on the original clutch. I currently own a 2003 Civic Si, that also has never had a problem (granted it only has 65,000 miles, but it has shown no signs of any issues). My family has owned numerous hondas and toyotas, none of which have had a problem.
the s2000 is a crazy motor, but i think the award goes to the Civic Type R for most impressive 4 banger. 2.0L putting out 220hp.
And why do so many people hate on Civics here? The 2006 SI is essentially an rsx-s with an LSD, but the car is priced at just under $20k, compared to the rsx-s at $23k. Having an LSD isn't really all that impressive, but to have it included on a car for under $20k is.
Please don't get me wrong in my posts, I'm not trying to blow steam up Honda's ___. Yes I do own one, but it's just a 2003 civic si, it only puts out 160hp, nothing impressive. I know that there are better cars out there, but for the money I think Hondas (and Scions for that matter) are an incredible value.
