Ignore this guy. An LSD will definetly improve your striaght driving experience. Ever heard of WWD? Wrong Wheel Drive? That happens when you have enough power to put to the ground always one wheel will spin faster (if the car lacks an LSD) than the other, so you just sit there. An LSD will allow you to launch at a higher RPM without that effect happening. Ask anyone with a DSM or Mustang what wrong wheel drive is hhehe.

Honda's have a very solid reputation, so does Toyota, I don't see how you can bash a car for being a Honda....what that says to me is that it has a proven history of reliability. I've owned a 1991 Toyota Celica GT that ran until 194,068 miles without a single problem, hell, it was even on the original clutch. I currently own a 2003 Civic Si, that also has never had a problem (granted it only has 65,000 miles, but it has shown no signs of any issues). My family has owned numerous hondas and toyotas, none of which have had a problem.
the s2000 is a crazy motor, but i think the award goes to the Civic Type R for most impressive 4 banger. 2.0L putting out 220hp.
And why do so many people hate on Civics here? The 2006 SI is essentially an rsx-s with an LSD, but the car is priced at just under $20k, compared to the rsx-s at $23k. Having an LSD isn't really all that impressive, but to have it included on a car for under $20k is.
Please don't get me wrong in my posts, I'm not trying to blow steam up Honda's butt. Yes I do own one, but it's just a 2003 civic si, it only puts out 160hp, nothing impressive. I know that there are better cars out there, but for the money I think Hondas (and Scions for that matter) are an incredible value.

The civic has a proven track record of rock solid reliability and sales numbers to back it up. Top that off with a motor yielding 30/40 mpg (dx/lx/ex), a completely redesigned interior, while still maintaining an affordable price, and you'd have trouble not getting car of the year.
The new civic Si is a very well balanced car. A LOT comes standard and it has a great engine. The reason it won car of the year, is because it is the best "new" car. They generally like to pick a car that is new to the scene. Not a 2005 civic when that generation is 4 years old...for instance
I personally could not go back to Honda. I had my Honda Civic stolen couple days before xmas and I'm sure that whoever took it knew exactly what I had...Engine swap, Turbo, Stereo, etc. etc. etc.
Fool me once, shame on you,
Fool me twice, shame on me.
If I were to get a new civic, I would gurantee it would too be stolen, since the K20 power plant is so easily transferrable into pretty much any other honda that has been made. An '88 crx could house a K20 for instance.
And that is why I am interested in a scion tC
Besides...we all need to get that supercharger and then we could compare it to the si.
Just my 2cents,
-Paul

the basic platform has been out for a while. the rsx has been pretty reliable and those k series motors are pretty bulletproof. (although one KID who comes into our shop already BLew up his si motor. it was supercharged and he just redlined the hell out of it--cuz he like the way it sounded! )
But no...I'd bet my life that the new civic doesn't have NEARLY as many factory problems as the tc has.

Putting power down to 2 wheels instead of one is going to be more beneficial than just having one wheel getting all the power.
and don't pay attention to kenshin. Just ask em how many bars he's running under fool boost for his tC. and @ what water temperature does he think he should shut down.

THE TC IS A 2 WHEEL/FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR. UNDER THAT LOGIC I GUESS A SUPRA IS A ONE WHEEL/REAR WHEEL DRIVE CAR HUH?
If this is about a LSD, you are way off. Just because an open differential car's wheels may spin more doesn't mean its ONE WHEEL DRIVE!! A car with an open differential, the wheels are always rotating the same speed (as each other). Its really not THAT big of a deal!
THe LSD takes power AWAY from the wheel that is slipping, allowing the drive wheels to spin at different speeds...thats all! doesn't provide power to a previously un-driven wheel! Someone on this site is MAD confused and spreading bunk info
HMMM^^^^ i disagree.
Just read your last paragragh...you answered your own question sort of...only if you didn't have LSD, your diff WOULDN'T transfer the power over to the other wheel. One wheel would spin and KEEP spinning. They never rotate the same speed.

NO, THE WHEEL WOULDN'T KEEP SPINNING AND SPINNING! LOL. maybe for like a second or two! Haven't you ever seen anyone chirp tires going around a corner!! Well u can come see my do it in my tc...I have no problems having an open diff at all. LSD's really only make noticeable improvement on the track...and mostly in RWD or AWD cars.
And what does your "they never rotate the same speed" comment mean, I just don't get it.
Maybe its cuz u have a box, u just don't really know what yur talking about....

If you drop the clutch at 4500 BOTH wheels are gonna spin wickedly...even with a LSD. LSD really (97%) only affects cornering/turning. When you're going straight, both wheels are traveling the same distance aka. going the same speed
