Default CEL Problems?

Okay, I posted up a thread earlier today about getting a CEL light after installing a Injen CAI, and Megan Racing Drift Spec Exhaust. I tried everything that all the nice people told me. So after a trip to Advance Auto Parts, they hooked up the CEL reader and came back as a code of P0171- Maf Sensor, Car Running Lean.

Okay,
question 1. Will driving like this hurt anything? I can't get to Toyota till Wednesday.

question 2. Do you think it could be something serious? The guy at Advance said it could be the 02 sensor bad, but my car isn't even a year old yet.

question 3. While driving and coming to a stop light, it looks like the revs drop below the normal 600-750 rpm, and stutters as if it is going to stall. Could this mean something serious?

question 4. I hear a slight rattle or clunking noise coming from either under the car, or under the hood, i can't seem to locate it.

Any help or in sight would be appreciated. I have searched a few threads and found some vague explanations.

Thanks all ahead a time.

well going to the dealer will be pointless since you have that CAI on. you'll just have to remove it. They'll blame it on the intake and you will get nowhere.

Did you check the connectors on the MAF also did you check to see that it was installed correctly ? I'm sure that you did. So my advise would be to go back. Put your stock Intake back in. reset the ECU and see if you get the code again.

Make sure everything is down nice and tight, so there are no vacuum leaks, and if its reading a maf sensor, get some maf sensor cleaner and clean it. At home Ive used CRC mass airflow sensor cleaner. As well as if you havent already reset your ecu. As far as the running lean idk, hope I helped a little. : )

I just went through the same thing man but it was with a p0172 running rich. Try cleaning the MAF and resetting your ECU. If that doesn't work Ill bet its your o2 sensor on your exhaust mani, thats what mine was. You can test the o2 with a multimeter if you want to make sure before you blow the 200

God, $200. How does the o2 go bad that quick? I have 10k miles, and the o2 goes bad once you change the exhaust?

I still hear this chattering, rattling sound but can't pin point it.

Update: On my way home from work, I have to merge onto a road, so I drop it into 3rd and give it some gas to merge, and then all of a sudden in the middle to shift to 4th, my rpms drop to 0 my battery and oil lights pop up.

I'm beginning to regret modding the tC.

I'll keep you updated

Thanks all for your prompt responses

improper cai install might cause this. or the base where the maf sensor sits on could be defective on the cai. check the maf O ring seal as well.

What does miles have to do with price? It's just 206 for the o2 sensor from my dealership. Autozone is cheaper but they're out of stock

I wasn't talking miles to price, I ment my car only has 10k miles, does an o2 go bad that quick when modding the exhaust?

the "God $200" was I can't believe I will have to pay that much for a new o2 sensor for a new car

It can go bad at anytime, it just has to be fouled in one way or another and unfortunately modding tends to find a way sometimes

Yea the new o2 has fixed it for now, ill update the other thread after driving it for a couple days with no light

these fault codes set off most of the time when you go boosted. Ppl used anti-foulers to bypass and trick the ecu. but you guys aren't boosted. it must be an install issue.

yeah, I tried that, and a few other things, but the light still is coming on.

I called a local machanic and told him everything that is going on.
-Rattle, or Chatter either where the mid pipe meets the s pipe or mid pipe meets tail pipe

- Hesatation
-RPMS Falling and trying to Stall
- When merging last night, oil and battery light came on + fuel cut, and rpm drop to 0
-CEL reads P0171

I am making an appt today to have it looked at

thanks for the help and suggestions

my best guess would be your maf sensor.

why regret modding the car? you gonna keep your next car stock? psh. that was hte whole point of this car in the first place. it's marketed as a individuals car.

i dunno. it irks me when i hear of tiny problems and people giving up, i understand blowing up your car then saying "ah...i regret it"

but i don't know.
