Is there a "beefier" water pump?
I got mine for $55 at Autozone. The pump came with the new gasket. If you are installing it yoruself, you'll also want to get a tube of "water pump sealant" to put on both sides of the gasket ($5).

I just got mine warrantied at 31000 miles. It started making horrible noises, nothing was leaking but I brought it in anways and sure enough it spent the night at the dealership...thankfully I got a loaner though.

So....what's the deal with the tC's shoddy water pump?

Not sure, but kicking myself for not taking the car in at 58K for inspection to warranty any problems....

How hard was the install for the pump? Toyota is trying to charge me $567 to replace my water pump (leaking) and my drive belt (cracked). I haven't confirmed either of these items. Is the drive belt AKA the chain you guys are calling the timing chain?

no it's not the timing chain the drive belt runs the alternator ac and i think the power steering . The timing chain controls the timing of the valves inside your engine
