Default Cold Air Intake safe from sucking up water?

Winters can get pretty wet in the Pacific Northwest and our highways are pretty rutted from studded tires leaving a never ending pool of water on the roadway and not to mention you get the occassional flooding with large puddles.

Anybody know if the Cold Air intake is in a spot where it can suck up water?

Have they even made a CAI yet? The only way that it can suck up water is if you completely submerge the filter. I had one on my 240sx that sat about 8 inches off the ground and I never had any problems in the rain. I guess it depends on your road conditions there.

If your nervous about sucking water just get a bypass valve, waste of money though IMO.

It only takes one good splash. My friends eclipse hydro-locked because of a cold-air intake. By the time everything was said and done...One snapped rod, two bent ones, etc, etc. Needed a complete rebuild.

If you're going to do it then get the bypass. It'll save you a lot of headaches downt he road.
