Cold Start - Engine Problem
Hey...first off, not sure if this should be here or in PH?
Anyways, this evening I went to go start the tC before going out to dinner w/ the fam...the car had been sitting since yesterday night after getting in from the bars.
When I went to start it, it sounded like it didn't want to start...like it was trying, but wouldn't. I tried turning it over again, and it started but the engine almost sounded like it was tapping, the RPMs were at a normal for a cold engine, 1500 to 2k RPMs...I immediately turned it off.
I waited a few seconds, and tried again to turn it over, this time doing so and it made the tapping sound again for a few seconds and then returned to a normal idling...
I let the engine warm up and then proceeded to check the engine oil, and everything was norm...also, no warning lights on the dash...
Anyone else have this problem? I did a quick search for 'engine problems' & 'starting issues' to no avail...
Thanks to anyone who has any insight.

Also, how is it normal to hear a tapping sound coming from the engine? It sounded like something wasn't being lubricated or something?? I dunno...my parents have had two Camry's and never had this problem and I had a Corolla and never experienced this...
the tapping is probably the internals... it most likely went away once the engine was warm. correct? once the engine ran for a few seconds then the oil should have been pumped through the block/head and the noise should subside

Also, I haven't heard it since. If I do, I may call the local Toyota/Scion shop and see what they say.
I still don't think it's normal for a car to do that...
Its fine.
The tapping is the injectors, they're a little slower to fire when its cold or they're old.
For some odd reason, mine won't fire right up whenever the weather changes drastically. I've got an 06 with less than 4,000 miles. Its apparently normal.

yeah it tokk about 4 times to get my car to start in 19 degree weather. the car was in my garage as well. I have a remote start, and it tried 3 times then when i got out to my car it took another 2-3 times. It ran real rough for about 10secs then it was fine. the weather has not been that cold yet so im not sure if it will happen again. If so its definately going to the dealer.
