So today I had time so I went to toyota service department to change my oil.
They said I have to wait 2 hours and I said okay. But surprisingly, it only took
30mins so I was happy, but then when I came home I checked the invoice thingy and
I noticed they used 4qt. of 5w30 oil. I guess from 06 recommendation changed to
0w20 or 5w20 and it even says on the oil cap. I thought they now use 20s on every new car. am I wrong?
Should I go back and change it again? or it's not a big deal? I'm worried about if it
Messes something up or effect on gas mileage.
Oh this is my first oil change ever for my tC

I wouldn't worry about. I did my first change with 5w30 as well. Just wait until your next change to use 5w20. However, if you are that concern go ahead and just change the oil. That should only run you about $5-8 for regular oil and $20 for syn.

^^ well.. that's because you have an '05
a tsb was released january of this year saying '06 and above should switch over to 5w20 or 0w20 as another option.
as of jan '06.. the toyota standard is 5w20.

I wish there was more info regarding the reasons behind the change. . . I've done a lot of searching and havn't come up with anything conclusive. . .
Anyone care to shed some light?

i would take it back and get what is supposed to be in the car ... toyota recomends 0w20 for a reason ... not to mention it is a synthetic oil too .. so i would make them change it again with the bottled 0w20 and i would ask to watch them do it
its not that big of a deal all 5w-20 will do is improve gas mileage and help with cold starts its not gonna screw up your engine you'll be just fine until you need your next one then request 5w-20 but until then its not like ur gonna be SOL if u leave it in.
