Dealership hassles.
Last week I was changing my oil and noticed a small leak coming form the transmission. I brought the car into the dealership and they told me that there was a seal on the axle that was leaking. Ok. They told me they would order the part. Two days later they call me to tell me that the seal is in and I made an appointment to have the leak repaired. Ok, no big deal so far. I dropped my car off at the dealership and got a ride home from my mother. An hour and a half later the dealership called me and told me that they accidentally ordered the wrong part! Now I have to go get my car and make another appointment.
The service guy that I had dealt with when I first noticed the leak called me the next day and told me how dissapointed he was with the parts department and offered me a rental car for a few days free of charge. I have now been driving a Corolla for 5 days. My car is sitting in the lot and the dealership. I called today and they told me that the part is still on back order and it will not come in until at least next week. This is ridiculous if you ask me. First of all a car with 20,000 miles shouldn't be leaking. Second of all, I shouldn't have to drive a crappy Corolla for an indefinite period of time because they can't get the part. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get my ar repaired asap? I have nothing against Corollas, but if I liked them I would have bought one instead of a tC.

did you hit something? my friend hit a tire on a highway and it made his gasket leak, he had an auto.
i bottomed out my old corolla on a dip at the bottom of a hill. it scraped the drain pan and maybe messed up the gasket. the auto trans drain pan always had a little fluid on the bottom of it, but not enough to drip off. i noticed that the trans fluid dropped from full to 3/4 full every 6 months. to fix it, the dealership wanted $300, so i just refilled it every half year. i ran the car like that for 4 years without a problem. i've sold the car since then. although i wouldn't recommend this for the tC at all, but with my beater corolla it worked out fine.
Giving him a rental car is actually required by the Scion warranty if they can't return it the same day due to not being able to complete a warranty repair.

dealers dont maintain a large loaner fleet usually from my experince, and usually if they do its a corola or something of that nature, lexus uses ES300 and RX330, when i take my IS in they always give one of those, but the dealer owns those and most likely will sell them at the end of the year, so i highly doubt scion dealers are going to own a fleet of Tc's especially seeing there is very little profit in the actual car.... just to have as loaners.......
as for getting you car repaired quickly, it goes as fast as the dealer can, its not like they are sitting there laughing at you, but they should have ordered the part right the first time

It is a manual transmission. It is leaking from the seal where the axle enters the transmission. No i did not hit anything. It is leaking from far up on the transmission, not from the bottom. It is not a horrible leak but it is enough to drip off of the transmission onto my driveway. They are being nice to me by giving me a loaner car. However, I did not like the fact that they keep pushing back the day that they expect the part. If I had known that it would take that long to get the part, I would have left my car at home where I can keep an eye on it instead of leaving it on the dealer lot where God knows what can happen to it.
Tomas, thank you for posting the info from the warranty book. That is not something that I have read cover to cover. Great info. If anyone has any ideas that will hurry the process along please let me know.
Has anyone else had a similar leak?

I also had some kind of a "leak" in my transmission of my tC (manual transmission) and I took it in. I did not see anything dripping onto my car port, but as I changed gears I could hear a release of air (as if I had turbo). They replaced the master cylinder on the clutch, and although they replaced it I can still hear that "pppsss" sound between switching gears... ANY IDEAS ANYBODY?
I, too, was given a Corolla to 'rolla-around with for a couple of days and it was little disappointing to down-grade from a Camry 4-cyl. engine to the 'rolla 4-cyl, but hey, I WAS GETTING BETTER GAS MILEAGE!
Thermos, I wouldn't sweat the whole 'rolla loaner... are you even old enough to get your own rental if that 'rolla wasn't an option??

We keep 3 tCs in our rental/loaner fleet. One of them has 18" TSW rims and custome two-tone leather. If you bring in your tC and need a loaner odds are good you'll leave in a car nicer than your own... yeah, thats how we roll.

yeah... sometimes there are things that the dealer can't control.. but i would agree they're doing their best and it's great that you have a loaner car to drive around at the least.
and also..
intake whistle?

SquallLHeart: I have done zero mods to my tC... is an "intake whistle" something stock? Is it normal? ... thanks for the input cuz I haven't been given a straight up answer to this... thanks again

Your an exception, too bad we dont have a dealer like yours in fresno........im lucky i get a courtesy ride home and dont get killed by the courtesy driver.
i wasn't expecting much from my dealer when i took it in for an oil change. they came up to me and said "ok, your oil change is done, BUT there's a little problem." and when he said that, i thought he meant he found something wrong with my transmission or something like that. but he said "when one of the technicians drove your car up the ramp, he didn't realize that i had lowered my car, and he went a little too fast and scrap the front bumper and part of it came off." so they said that the best thing to do is leave the car here and take a loaner for the day then come back on monday, cuz i did my service on a sunday. i refused and told them i wanted my car back right now and i'll take it in monday. however, my oil change was free of charge though. so the next day i brought in the car and i wasn't expecting to get anything better than my own car. i was just hoping for a scion tc replacement but they wouldn't even do that. they won't even give me a scion tc to roll with and there were some nice ones out there with the trd exhaust, ground effects kit, tyc taillights, and the pedestal spoiler. but instead, they gave me................... the 2006 KIA OPTIMA. hey, at least it's a 2006 though. and V6 might i add. but still, it sucked!
personally i won't complain about the wait. just as long as they don't keep telling me to come to the dealership and waste my time. i'd drive the hell out of the corolla knowing that i'm not racking miles on my own car...
I'm not sure how Toyota runs their rental car program, but with Ford renta car we dont have a choice what cars we get. They send us whatever they send us. Also, at the end of one year we can pull the Mercurys and sell them on the lot, however with the Lincolns ford will send us a letter telling us when to pull them and to ship them back. Its kind of weird. The Toyota dealership I go to doesn't even have Scions for rental cars. Then again I'm not 21 so I could car less.
