I have the dealer-installed alarm on my tC. I've noticed that sometimes when I press the Unlock button on my key, it'll beep twice, but other times it'll beep 4 times. Why is that?

My scion security only makes the lights flash with lock/unlock...

 

When there is more than two beeps, that is an indication that your alarm had been set off.

Also, Integres_350, he has the Scion security, whereas if you did not choose that option, you have keyless entry. The security beeps, keyless does not.

 

dnt know about the scion alarm but my viper beeps 4 times (when disarmed) when it was triggered/set off/bumped while I was away....let me ask some people for you

ok, so I called the dealership and I asked them about this, since the curiosity was killing me.

at my dealership, they stated that they use the Karr brand alarm systems. They also said when it beeps 4 times, it means that the alarm was previously set off. Since the alarm resets itself after some time, the 4-beeps indicates that someone/something set off the car alarm. Otherwise, it would normally just beep 2 times.

i learned something today.

 

ahh so the dealer used a different brand alarm system-- my tC has Scion Security and it doesn't beep with lock/unlock--

now it makes sense

 

he probably got the xB alarm.

 

oem scion security system does not beep just flashes lights.

 

i know i payed for the option but mine doesnt beep

 

Like he said, 2 different car alarms through Scion. There's the non-beeping/lights flashing Scion Security and there is the beeping KARR alarm. Depending on the dealer, they usually go with 1 of the 2.

 

I am almost certain OEM Scion Security does indeed beep. When there is no beep when the alarm is armed or disarmed, you have no alarm....you have keyless entry. If someone wants to test this, "set" your non-beeping OEM alarm and kick the tires hard, tap the windows, rock the car. It should set the alarm off (with beeps and flashes)


If you did indeed pay for an alarm, test it as above and see if it sets off the alarm.

The panic button is not indicative of an alarm. This is a feature of the keyless entry.

 

^^ as they said there are two in circulation. Mine doesn't beep, just flashes. And trust me it's an alarm. I've set it off many times when working around my car.

 

What's the Beeping KARR alarm? is that only offered by like Southeast or Gulf States region???? I've never heard of it..I only know of the OEM Scion Security option....I wasn't aware of a KARR alarm though

 

My alarm is temperamental .. Sometimes it beeps.. Other times it doesn't

he has the KARR alarm which is a completely different brand.

again.. i say... countless times... THERE IS NO BEEP for the Scion Security on the tC

the beep on my brother's highlander annoys me all the time

the OEM kit doesnt beep, i know, i have it (sadly, gonna upgrade soon!!!!)

a little annoying.

 

i also purchased 08 tC with Scion Security Option but no beep.
i've talked to one of the rep in dealer and he said it supposes not to beep. T.T
now while surfing i found this on the scion.com
is there any one's tC doing this?
in the video it beeps like other toyota security system
