Default DIY - First Oil Change

Just did the oil change this morning. It's amazingly easy. The "stock" oil filter (part# 90915-10004) is a high quality one from Japan unlike the one (part# 90915-YZZA2) I bought at dealer. Here are some pics...

These are from Honda dealer I bought for my Accord... :D

I also changed mine for the first time tuesday. I always have loved getting the filter off of a new car for the first change...I pulled two muscles doing it (forgot to bring my filter wrench) but in the end, the xA has new blood! Changing oil in this bastard is EASY! :D

Interesting. So is the old oil filter bigger than the new one, or vice versa? Did you need a wrench to remove the old filter?

Wouldn't any filter for the Camry 2.4L work?

The old one (part# 90915-10004) is bigger than the "Camry" one (part# 90915-YZZA2). It was so tight that I had to use a wrench to remove it. The parts guy at dealership told me 90915-YZZA2 fits tC and some Camry.

I see. So you replaced the tC oil filter with the Camry one (I guess because they didn't have the new tC filter yet.)

Why waste your freebies in the summer? Have them change it for free when the weather is awful.

I don't really trust them. There was one incident that the oil filter fell after one week of driving...i guess it depends on who does the job.

I put about 1050 miles on my tC in 11 days. The engine oil in the drain pan was still quite clear. For a moment, i thought it wasn't necessary to change it in such short time...

It isn't really... these cars don't need an intense break in period light old cars did... just go easy on the driving for the first 1000 miles... you could've just waited till your first scheduled oil change...

That's my plan. My dealer said the reccommend 3750 miles for the first oil change, but th emanual says 5000. I'll probably start thinking about it at 3750 and get it done (or more likely do it myself) by 5000.

the parts guy is a moron

your supposed to use the YZZA1 filter because thats what is supposed to go on the 2.4L motors

sure this one will fit but its not the right part # for the car

the YZZA1 filter is the same exact filter as the fitler that comes with the car
i would suggest going back to that dealer and have them explain to you why it was ok for them to give you that one and not the one specified for your car

"this is the right part but we wont give you that one, heres one that SHOULD work too, its used on the 2.2L camry but a 4cyl camry is a 4cyl camry right?"
thats the kind of attitude that is not acceptable

the break in for a 71 mopar is take it easy for the first 50 miles and drive to 50-60 mph and a few WOT runs then after 500 miles your fine and change the oil at 3 months or 4K miles (its in the owners manual for a 71 dodge polara that i got at a junk yard, five finger discount lol)

yea seriously... the one you replaced it with is not going to hold as much oil and it won't filter as much oil as a result, which might ultimately end up choking oil flow through your engine... althoguh it is a camry engine, it is a bit tweaked for more power...

I just checked with another dealer. They said they all use YZZA2 for tC oil filer. Does anyone have tC parts manual to confirm?

I think you got the wrong filter. It should be apparent just looking at them, that the YZZA2 is alot different than the YZZA1.

This web site shows the one you got is for 4 cylinder 1983-2001 Camry and the YZZA1 is for the current model 2.4L Camry that is 2002-2004.
