I have noticed that our brake rotors seem to rust more then other vehicles I have owned previously . I remember my previous vehicles used to get rust when I washed them but it seems the TC , the rotors rust alot , I dont think it causes any long term effects or reduces its abilities to stop but it does make a mess of black rims after you wash it

It's normal, In fact, when it comes to street application, cast iron is considered the best material to use for brake discs, which = rusty discs, but real good braking. You can get Stainless steel discs that would look better, but not perform as good.

So, it seems like that the tC's discs are either cast iron, or have a very high carbon content that is close to what cast iron has, to provide good braking performance.

That's typical jap steel. Toyota has a long history with rust. You don't see to many classic toyotas around due you?

what does this have to do with brake rotors? there is no steel in the rotors, its cast iron which rusts like its noone buisness. its very normal and the fact the wheels on this car leave it much more exposed than most other cars could help it along quicker.

So...What's the best way to clean them? And is there any way you can prevent the rusting?
