Going to a scion site and asking if the TC is any good will just get you a bunch of biased views from the owners. Look into the car more and its not perfect like most people think it is.
Yea for Nick the only person here to tell it like it is.....My Hero!!!!!!!!!
yup, Nick has a tC and he has cojones! (_))===============

THE CAR IS GREAT! I would recomend it for a young driver the idea of letting her drive an older car you have for the first few months isnt that bad of an idea... other than that the car would be perfect for your daughter

Just so you know, my tC hasn't rattled, and the A/C kicks ****. I have no problem with the sunroof...no noises from it. Only problem I have with mine is the vent on the left side of the wheel moves with the ac on full blast. Otherwise, it's perfect. Quiet as can be and very smooth driving.

Second off, I didn't get my license until I was 17 and a half (although it's not 16), and I didn't to any damage to my car I was driving. My step sister got her license at 15 and 3/4 (Nevada does that now) and she totaled the car (the car I was driving before I invested in a heap...I mean Jeep) twice within 4 months.

I'm not saying that that will happen with inexperience, but that is why you pay insurance. Also, it sounds like this car holds up pretty well in an event of an accident, and keeps the passengers pretty safe.

By all means...if you want your daughter to experience a little slice of heaven (I'm sorry...it's just a really nice car imo) then get it for her. :D

I like my car, but I would suggest looking into other cars. If this one fits all your needs and you like it, buy it.

Another thing to note is the tires will wear fast compared to other cars. The factory tires only have a 160 tread wear. Factor stuff like that into the long term cost of the car. 17" tires are going to be more expensive than a 15 or 16" on another car.

All of the rattles and problems with my car has been broken stuff from the factory. Broken stereo door, broken seat belt, broken plastic clips and other stuff that doesn't exactly scream toyota quality.

Let her drive one and other cars. My brother was in love with the TC till he saw one in person and couldn't stand the sunroof covers. Just too cheap for his taste. I don't like it, but it didn't bother me enough not to buy it.

Also, Scion customer service is horrendous. After dealing with the normal people, a manager was suppost to call me back within 2 business days, and its been a week now. I'll call back on monday to try to follow up on all the problems I've had with the car, the dealer, and scion over all.

i think all owners will recommend it.

its a very smooth ride. i tried an automatic at the dealership and its really smooth.

then again i own a manual, the ride is still smooth. shifting gears is alot smoother then some cars i driven.

just like the camry, the engine and soft brakes.

the sound system is really good. change the SSP to neutral, hear, and feel; or change the whole sound as if your riding a xA,xB, or tC (xB is better). people will think you added a subwoofer in there. use the MP3 player and pick what type of text you wanna show.

one tiny problem is a couple blind spots. similiar to the RSX in my opionion..

if toyota didnt add those extra covers on the engine to make it quiet as possible, the car would be as loud as subaru 2.5RS.

a car that has a 2.4liter engine for 16k? thats cheap

most cars at that price are atleast 1.8-2.0L engines

i took some "medicine" and it really mellowed me out, the driving is soooo smooth.. it felt like i was floating...

the back seats might not be confortable...

Nick if your problems with car was already ____ed up from the factory, then why did you take delivery of the car. You have the right to refuse the vehicle, you are not forced to take the car. The way I look at it, it's not scion's fault, it's your fault for accepting a vehicle with so many problems! If the car I wanted had all the problems when I went to get one, I would have said no thanks.

On the subject of tires, I can get 17 inch low profile tires all day long for $55 a pop for Nanking 205/40/17, so tires aren't that expensive, I can get Kumho or Nitto for $70 a pop.

I'm not going to give you crap for buying a new car for a 16 year old, but aren't you a bit worried that the car might be too fast for her? Apparently not, since your other car choice is a Mustang. I know 160hp isn't FAST, but it's definitely more powerful than a Civic would be.

Who will be paying for insurance? The tC is classified as a sport liftback/hatchback. That "sport" doesnt chime well with the insurance people. I would also recommend the xA.

No matter what you buy for her:
To further help your daughter out, her name should be in the financing papers. Either you are the first on top, then her name, or better yet, your name as second (not sure if that will go through, doest hurt to try) while her name is the main holder to the car. This way she can eat the credit being gained and instead of being like some college students who have bad credit rating due to past late payments, etc. while in high school.

If you are set on buying her a new car, and want to spend $16-18k, then I can think of no better choice than the tC.

I would look into the tC and the Mazda 3 as choices for your daughter. They are the best buys for their price range.

i'm 16 and i got my tC a few days ago. It's a very nice car especially for someone our age. In my opinion...its the best deal you can get for any car on the market concerning options for the price. The Black Cherry Pearl color would probably look good for her. You should definately consider purcyhasing this car.

The tC was originally intended for young people such as 16 year olds by Toyota. It is reliable, backed by Toyota warranty and has a lot of safety features. You should get all airbags offered
such as head curtains and side. It has triple folded door beams and crumple zones around.
For safety alone, the tc is a good car to have for a new driver.
Take her to a public school parking lot ( where the buses turn around) on the weekend
early in the morning and practice turning clockwise and counterclockwise, braking, backing and steering wheel control. After a few days of that, let her drive around the school driving ed range where there are lines painted on the road, stop signs etc. After a month or two she can drive the
neighborhood streets early in the morning (15-25 mph). Then graduate to 45 mph roads such as the roads to her school since she is familiar with the way.
Meanwhile you can enjoy driving the car the rest of the week.

I'm in my 20s, and in no way would I recommend a new car to anyone who has driven less than 20-30k miles in their entire life. Until they can utterly prove themselves a safe driver, the chance of an accident is EXTREMELY high.

I'm not talking about even necessarily a high speed accident, but even a small parking scratch is a tear jerker, that nearly all young high school and college students will face.

She might be a perfect driver, but TRUST me, watch the other kids around her school drive, and ask yourself... do you feel safe parking a brand new 16k + car alongside other neophyte drivers?

If new car is a MUST, I guess the tC is a decent choice. The side impact bars means she'll be safe from major accidents, but its missing vital side molding that could help protect it from excessive door dingage. Crowded student parking lots are quite frequent to these occurances w/ other A-holes not able to gauge the size of their car and parking just too close to your car.

every problem i have read about on forums does not apply to my scion. I order it July 15, and recieved it at dealershp on aug. 5.

Slight rattle when moonroof is open and i hit substantial bump (michigan roads bite).

I am extremely hot blooded, and I have to turn my ac down because I get cold.

My hvac **** is definitely aluminum, it gets way hotter / colder then the plastic surrounding, and makes metallic sound when i hit it with my key.

maybe the first batch of tC's had some bugs, but In my ride they seem to be worked out.

no dont get the mazda 3, its nickname is scooby. the back lights are just ugly. protege looked decent. i rather pick Mazda 6.

unless you like cars that are 100% Japan built then scion is the one.

Mazda is like 35% USA and 75% Japan.

my dad only likes cars thats 100% made in Japan...

remember, when you think of toyota youll think "TOYOTA RELIABLITY"

if you're buying for looks get it if you're buying for speed and performance don't. it has alot of problems probably cos its still a prototype. even though few owners will admit it. anyway it will make a perfect chick car so im sure she'll love it. when she wrecks or drives it into the ground you will both have learned a valuable lesson hey its just 17k right.

exactly what problems are you talking about? can you list them? that would be very helpful for every one who's still on the fence about buying a tc.
