The Tc is a great car, just not for a brand new driver. There's way too many blind spots. Test drive one and try looking over your shoulder, that's the worst one. You simply cannot see over your shoulder in the tc. Vision through the rear view mirror is limited, plus the mirror blocks some of your forward vision since everything is so compact. And there are two big pillars blocking some of your forward side-to-side vision. If she dies in an accident where the pillars blocked her vision and wasn't able to see a car due to her inexperience, it will be your fault (even if she doesn't die or get handicapped yours and hers insurance rates will double for 3 years.) Don't forget that. And for the love of god, don't get her manual transmission. I should point out that all coupe cars have somewhat limited vision over the shoulder though.

She's been warned, the tc is terribly not new driver friendly. If she doesn't heed this advice and it hurts her daughter it is her own fault. It's a cool car but the Camry, Corolla, Mazda3, Mazda6, Hyundai Sonata, Civic, Maxima, Altima, Focus, etc (in 4 door automatic) are all much more new driver friendly. But hey, at least it's not a motorcycle.

I've driven a tC for over a year now and I really NEVER even noticed the "blind spots" you're talking about..

It might have some really minor blind spots, and there is easier cars to see out of, but you're making way too much out of it.. It probably would be a little harder to see out the back if I had a spoiler, but I don't.

My '02 eclipse had wayyyyy more blind spots then the tC.. not to even mention my dad's car a '72 mach1 fastback (you could not see out the back of that car at all)

Not if we're talking about a first year driver. Do you know what the odds of a first year driver getting into an accident are compared with someone who's driven for 5 years? Take a look at the difference in insurance rates. Giving a first year driver a car with poor visibility only magnifies those odds. So you love your daughter, do you get her the coolest car or safest car?

Another coupe with bad blind spots, no wonder you don't recognize much of a difference. Try any of the other cars i mentioned above for a day, you'll notice a HUGE difference in visibility.

Not sure what all they fixed that was not noted in 06 but the ac in mine kicks butt and I have had 0 rattles so far. Not even a squeek. Car has been awsome so far! I highly reccomend it!

But for a NEW driver, yes the car has to many blind spots / a-pillars are large and block view... you get the idea. No idea what kind of driver she is but it would not be a car I would buy one of my own kids for there first ride. I would look at somthing like an x/a...

I agree that most of the 4 door cars are easier to see out of but I really never have a problem seeing the road.. Maybe you should try adjusting your mirrors differently?

I have 5% tint on my car all the way around and the entire windshield is tinted 35%, and I still don't have a problem seeing out..

about the A/C, the A/C is also ice cold in my tC.. I live in SW Florida so I have it on alot. It's not the best if you're idling but once you start going, it cools the car down really fast.. I don't think I've ever had it on full blast more then 5 minutes.

I think the tC is a great car for the money. Good looks and 2.4 Camry engine for the price of a Corolla or Matrix.
I have a 2006, so hopefully the first year bugs are all worked out.
I don't mind talking the car up if anybody asks me about it, either. I am proud of my beautiful, new, shiny black car!

I've got to agree. The tC has horrendous blind spots. I've owned dozens of cars and this is by far the worst ever... well the new accord coupe is pretty bad too. I've about 25 years of driving experience now, so I adjusted to the lack of visibility pretty quickly, but this really isn't a good car for a first time driver, for that reason alone. Period. She will crash it, and she will drive my insurance rates up.

Blind spots for sure. Bugs me, but getting used to them.
And still, I managed to scratch my front lip.
The over-the-shoulder ones are the worst - but the side mirrors are a big help there.
Never been so paranoid to change lanes!

We're looking seriously at the tC after reading a number of glowing reviews/reports on the the net and in magazines. We saw one at the dealer today. First impressions - I like the looks, my husband likes the engine. We like the overall idea of MOST options being standard. Some concerns: absolutely no protection from door dings. A little plain on the back end (will probably add a spoiler).
I'd like to ask those of you out there who've already bought one - are you happy with the decision? Would you do anything differently? Any tips you have?
Thanks for the input! :D
it depends on your baby girls lifestyle..if shes a pack rat then go for the xA or xB..but the tC is not a bad choice. they fixed most of the rattle problems in the 06 cars..besides what other car do you know that is reliable and has a sunroof and 17" rimz for under $17K???? there's not alot of them out there....BUT i do think that a used car would be better for her tho only because she does not have alot of experience....i say buy her a brand new tC in about 2 years...she'll take care of it better and be a more expierenced driver

You ever drive a Matrix? Even worse! Not sure if it's the seating position or the shape of the quarter windows, but if you don't have your mirrors adjusted right, cars can just freakin' hide on you in that thing!

guess i didn't notice the blind spots as that bad; but i've driven enough trucks where you relied solely on the side mirrors that my driving habits have changed over the years. But compared to some of the cars I had years ago--these are still much better.
Only input i'd have on a teen is if you are getting them a car, regardless of year--they should have some input on costs ( whether insurance, maintenance, fuel, etc ) so they feel some ownership in the car. That hopefully would lead to some responsibility with it. We helped our daughter get her first car ( used Sunfire w/ a 5sp ), so she did pay towards the vehicle, pays for all her gas; and insurance costs depend on her grades. In our case that seems to be working.

i got the interior blue leds from port install. i think i'm going to not recommend them for other buys. the product looks alright, but for the price of 250 dollars i know i was throwing away money from the get go. but that's not my issue here. i believe the reason why my center dash sqeaks and feels loose is b/c it was all ripped apart when they installed the led lights in the cup holders. car parts that are taken apart then reinstalled never fit the same anymore. if i didn't get those leds i believe my dash would be as sturdy as everyone else's 06 model. damnit! it's not too bad, but i'm a very picky car guys.

i'd recommend the tC, but that's not saying their aren't better cars. i think the interior of the Tc is a bit on the cheap side, i guess that's made up for by the standard features disc brakes, etc... if it weren't for the poor paint job and the poor interior integrity i'd have to say the tc would be the best choice!

I don't recommend it either. Too many kinks to work out still. I've had mine for 12,000 miles, and it rattles like crazy. They dealership has had 5 tries to fix the rattles, and nothing doing. Im currently in the process of applying for the lemon law. If you're gonna buy this car for your daughter, be ready for her to complain about rattling noises a lot!
gotta agree with captain tc,

tc=lemon

do a search for lemon laws on this site, and read all the complaints people are having about this car. I would say that a civic or saturn would suit her better.
