Compared to other cars close to the same price, I think the tC has TONS of soul and character. You don't see one everywhere you turn (at least around here). I have people asking questions and commenting on my car all the time.
Also, the tC has a really cool independent rear suspension setup very similar to the recent Celica GT-S setup. The first time I put her to the limits, I was prepared for the car to do a 360, and it held the road perfectly.
The factory power output was spirited and fun, but adding the supercharger totally changes the car.
I know it's a ton of money, but totally worth doing.

I feel that mt tC has soul. I'm not sure if that was coming from having two Jeeps as my frist two cars or what. I loved the peppyness of it, and I love being right over the steering wheel and being able to hear it screaming at over 6k rpms. And now that I'm turboed.

i'm not too big on modding cars, i'd rather just have a nice and fun car to drive out of the box. that way the resale value holds and less problem will occur in the future.

my friends all love my car and they all wish they had an 06 car of their own, but i just don't feel the excitement when drving it. there just isn't any performance in it to be excited about. i know it's a low budget car, but even the mazda 3 and civic are more fun to drive according to magazine. i have driven both the 3 and the new civic and agree with the verdict. i also agree on consumer report saying "the tC is not sporty". kinda sucks when it's in the sports coupe class.

i don't know if i offended any tC owners, but my intentions isn't to put down the tC, but rather to describe how i really feel about my tC. these are just my oen personal opinions on my car.
Ok so let me get this straight, you bought the car not concerned about performance and rather the room and practicality but now 3 months later you're all about performance and regretting your purchase? I don't think there's anything wrong with the tC, you just don't know what you want in a car. I've driven the Mazda 3 too and it seemed pretty comparable to the tC (as far as speed and handling goes). As far as the new Civic goes, unless it's the Si they are much slower than the tC and I would assume much less fun to drive.

If cars have souls, where do they go when they die?

I love it.. I find that the best thing to do to really settle in a new car is drive it for 10 hours straight one way, then back a couple of days later

i know my priorities has shifted since i bought my car. i've got a performance mind set now instead of room and comfort. that's my own fault that i changed my mind set. not bashing on the tC at all. tC is a great car, but i'm just saying for the same money i spent i mine i could of gotten something else that i'm more interested in now.

as far as the fun to drive factor. even though i agree with most magazines about tCs not being sporty, i still think it's whatever the owner/driver of the car feels towards the tC. for a person that loves tC (like my friend who loves my tC), he's got so much good things to say about it. he likes the way it drives ect, ect. obviously he loves the car for what it is. i'm sure if he owned one he would connect with the tC's soul, lol.

besides a few issues i dislike about the tC, which i won't mentioned b/c i already noted it in another thread, the tC is still a sweet ride. it's just a couple things short for me to connect fully with it.

Dude...the way the steering wheel tightens up when your accellerating out of a turn is the closest to a symbiotic relationship ive ever had with a car.

And I loved to death my last car (92 toyota camry xle)

The cars not even 5 days old and ive already washed it, cleaned the interior and the rims.

Its a $16K+ car. What did you expect?

I think all cars are 'souless' until you yourself put some soul into your ride. It would be hard to appreciate a car that is basically put together for you without your input. Sure, I BUILT my car online, then went to the dealer and ordered it. It still didn't have soul because anybody can build their car online with the same accessories as me. I'm talking about picking out rims and tires. Tint and Head Light covers or new Tails. Adding a new exhaust, CAI, or Header. Etc, etc, etc. Accessories that really make your ride personal. Receiving compliments from family and friends on your hard work you poured into your ride. Only then, I believe, can feel the soul between you and your ride.

My car to me is no where near to what i have had in other cars. I so far have had 3 cars a 325I BMW, my first car and i absolutely miss to death it had a soul and no matter what i did or try to do to it, it would never die. That car was a beast but at the same time a gentle first car, somehow it just radiated with its own personality of gentelness but quick fun. My next car was a Porsche 928 wow what a monster that was. First off the only V8 porsche in a sports car trim haha made one hell of a nice sound with a straight exhaust system, and then the borla exhaust at the end man i loved that sound. It felt like it was on rails, I could throw that thing into a cornor and try to gas it and it would just laugh and make the tires scream for mercy but never give out. That thing was a speed demon it would just keep going and going and that sound was unbelieveable think of a nissan 350z sport exhaust at top end but at bottom end a ported SS camaro or something it was crazy. Mine also had a tendancy to spit flames haha. That car had its own "soul" as well. However my tc to me feels so bland and boring and so does my brothers Mazda 3. I really was so heart broken giving up my 928, not because it was even fast but the soul and connection that car had to me was amazing. Somehow i believe that when a car is truely built exclusively for instance Porsche, BMW, Mercedes (older ones not new crap from crysler) they somehow have this legacy behind them of motorsport perfection and pride something that cannot be recreated in any of these cheap Toyotas, Mazdas, Nissans etc... that is what makes a Ferrari a Ferrari and not some Kia Rio. I think that is what makes a car have a "soul", the whole legacy and background too it. Even if that means personalizing the car yourself it somehow has a background.

ha i had to do it heres a clip of a 928 with a borla exhaust however i dont think he has any headers so mine was a little louder in the higher rpms. http://media.putfile.com/928InCarVideo

I don't want my car to have soul, I want it to be an extension of my soul. I've had my tC for a little over a month and it's almost there.

I have a weird connection with my tc, it wasn't really my choice to get the car, when i had the money i was about an inch away from buying 98 gsx eclipse which i had fallen in love with after i drove one when i was 16. My parents went and used my money to get me a scion tc like a week after it came out. i was really dissapointed with it at first mainly because it was an auto cuz my mom cant drive stick, and because it lacked the power of that beloved gsx and my dads 5spd 87 maxima. I slowly grew to like it by learning how to manipulate the gear box with the 1-3 option to d and figure out how it handled (my first auto car ever). from the start i always hand performance on my mind and switched out the suspension, got exhaust, and the injen intake when it first came out. When i finaly got a full connections with my tc is when after a yr of running it i took it on its first full canyon run using the manual gearing on it on a rainy night. I was rolling with a bran new evo 9 and g35 and some how out turned them and took the turns at nearly 70 mph (suicide turns really). i drifted with crazy ease around many of the turns and knowing i started last and passed both cars made me have more faith in it. Too bad the g35 crash his bumper into a side rail and the evo was about 50 ft behind me. I plan to get a turbo for the car over summer and by next yr have the gsx as well. My car went from a hate relationship to a loving one when it proved it could handle my driving.

If your first cars were BMW's and porche's, sorry they didnt have soul, they had mom and dads money written all over them unless you got your first car at 30.

My buddy (he is in his 30s by the way ) has a 325i.. slooow for the price, doors dont close correctly and has running problems, and he just drives it back and forth to work, I think it has 40k on it.. P

Sorry, but to me BMW's and porches are nice, but have zero personality. They are overpriced and mainly status symbols. BMW's have looked the same for so long it hurts. They are the Grand AM of high priced cars If I had to have one, I would definitely like the M3, but for that much money I could find somethign a lot more interesting to buy. But, whatever you like is your thing.
