door unlocks with a pull even when locked..?
Hi all.. wondering if you notice this... or its just my car.... when i'm in the car.. locked the doors... i just pull the lever and the lock unlocks automatically.... wondering if any of you have the same thing? i personally don't like it.. hope there is a fix for it.
That is actually a feature for the car... so that people don't have to press the unlock button to open their doors. I also asked the dealer whether it was possible to disable that feature and he said he didn't think so.

Child-lock the door...if you open the door by mistake while the car is moving, you deserve to be child-locked...
Haha... I asked because in a few years... I will probably want to have kids.
Anyways... I don't think the car has a child lock. Does anyone know? My baby (car) went into surgery today... can't really check the doors.

i think that feature is for safety..hehe.
scenario 1.
somebody carjacks u...he's on the passenger side and orders u to drive. Wat do u do...he locks the door. But TC is ahead of him... u go for the door and it opens magically without needing to unlock.
scenario 2.
u kidnapped someone... the passenger is freaked and jumps out while u're doing 50mph.
So it works both ways. Scion thinks of everything...

bah...should prolly be sticking a kid in the back seat to start off with. now if the kid is getting to the front seat and opening the door while the car is in motion? then you got a kid that won't stay put....tie him/her to the rear bumper. that'll teach the kid.

From the manual...
The door lock system has the following function:
Function Outline
Manual Lock and Unlock This function can lock or unlock all doors by the door lock control switch operation.
One-motion Open (Driver Door)
When the driver’s door is locked, this function enables the driver’s door to be unlocked
by merely pulling on the inside handle of the driver’s door.
Key-linked Lock
This function, which is linked with the driver door’s or front passenger’s key cylinder, can
lock all the doors when a lock operation is effected.
This function operates with a key except when the following two conditions have been
met.
• Ignition switch is ON
• Seat belt buckle switch for driver is OFF (Driver seat belt is fastened)
Key-linked 2-step Unlock (Driver Door)
This function is provided to unlock the driver’s door by turning the key cylinder first step
and to unlock all doors by turning it the second step. However, the second step must be
performed within three seconds.
Key-linked Unlock (Front Passenger Door)
This function is provided to unlock all doors by turning the key cylinder first step.
Key Confine Prevention When the key is inserted in the ignition key cylinder and the driver’s door is open, an
attempt to lock will cause all the doors to unlock.
Manual Unlock Prohibition
When a lock operation is effected through wireless door lock remote control or key-linked
operation, this function prohibits the door lock control switch from becoming unlocked.

Hey ... can you tell me how you did that???
Its actually a feature on many many cars no. It is possible to deactivate it. Check your owners manual. It will be in there somewhere. Like how to change the unlock feature to unlock all the doors with one button press on the key fob instead of two.

Looks like Scion/toyota is taking some similar intrest that ford has had for years..
I have a 96 Ford Probe and it has this feature.. if the door is locked and if you want to get out.. all you do it pull the door lever and the door auto-unlocks. Up untill now I believe Ford were the only company doing this..
I think it's a great feature. Simply for the fact that I know that many of times when i'm riding with my window down i put my arm up on the windowsil and accidently lock the door and not even realize it.. In my Probe it doesn't matter because it auto-unlocks, but i've done it plenty of times in my friends rides and been like "Dude! WTF! Is your door broke!" lol then I look and see that i've accidently locked the door and they don't have the feature that I've grown so used to..
Man, seems like everytime I come on hear and read people's "questionable defect's threads" It comes out with something that's actually a standard option and is usually good news. I keep like'n the tC more and more... Can't wait till I can get mine!

On a side note, has anyone else noticed that the car will automatically lock itself even if you don't? Maybe it's just mine, but about 30 seconds after I take the key out, the doors auto-lock.
