X5s eh? That's a fairly recent car. My dad's old (early 80s) Ford Tempo had this feature...

I personally like this feature. It's standard on all Mercedes, but what i wish it did (like the mercedes) is automatically lock the doors once you start driving. is that too much to ask?

Honestly, if you can't keep from opening the door while your car is moving and need to lock it to protect yourself, you've got bigger problems.

If your kid is old enough to sit in the front, they should know better than to jump out while it's moving too. If not.. well that's what we call natural selection. It's what weeds out the genetically inferior from the gene pool.

I heard that this feature was designed because long ago somebody broke down on train tracks with the door locked and in a panic he/she forgot to unlock the door and just kept tugging at the door handle and he/she eventually got hit by the train.... kind of slim circumstances but its a good idea with any life threatening road hazards

my old 97 eclipse had this feature. didnt bother me at all. kids really do belong in the back seat. the airbags deploy at around 200MPH. it will bruise a full size adult but it can kill a small child. this is actually why roadsters come with an airbag off switch.

Did anyone notice that if you have the factory security and you unarm the car with your remote and not open any doors... it will lock the doors and rearm the security system??

?
Yes, it's a passive alarm feature. For example: You're leaving a store and walking to your car. You unlock the doors and realize you forgot something and turn around, you didn't remember to lock the car back up. Since you didn't open any doors within 30 seconds of disarming it re-arms itself.

I just checked, the door will still open at 35 MPH, so don't think it won't. Be careful

I was just talking to my fiance about this yesterday as we were driving to LA from SD. He wanted to test this theory as we were going 75mph on the 405N. Good thing we didn't. :D

Function Outline
Manual Lock and Unlock This function can lock or unlock all doors by the door lock control switch operation.
One-motion Open (Driver Door)
When the driver’s door is locked, this function enables the driver’s door to be unlocked
by merely pulling on the inside handle of the driver’s door.
Key-linked Lock
This function, which is linked with the driver door’s or front passenger’s key cylinder, can
lock all the doors when a lock operation is effected.
This function operates with a key except when the following two conditions have been
met.
• Ignition switch is ON
• Seat belt buckle switch for driver is OFF (Driver seat belt is fastened)
Key-linked 2-step Unlock (Driver Door)
This function is provided to unlock the driver’s door by turning the key cylinder first step
and to unlock all doors by turning it the second step. However, the second step must be
performed within three seconds.
Key-linked Unlock (Front Passenger Door)
This function is provided to unlock all doors by turning the key cylinder first step.
Key Confine Prevention When the key is inserted in the ignition key cylinder and the driver’s door is open, an
attempt to lock will cause all the doors to unlock.
Manual Unlock Prohibition
When a lock operation is effected through wireless door lock remote control or key-linked
operation, this function prohibits the door lock control switch from becoming unlocked.
So uhh what exactly is this? I've just gotten an alarm that locks the door automatically when I start engine and unlocks when shut off.. but it'll be useless if you just pull the door handle and it opens.. I'm looking for a way to disable that "feature". and are those instructions? doesn't look dumbass friendly to me.. so if somebody knows, please help
