Default Driving in Overdrive off during Break In Period..

I got my new 2006 Scion TC from the dealer and drove it home on the highway for about 30 miles.

Anyway, I got an automatic and I didn't realize that I was driving in Overdrive when I shifted to "3" instead of "D". At the time, I didn't know what the difference was and I wasn't really paying attention whether I shifted to 3 or D.
When I first got in the car, I just shifted towards one of them (3 or D) and drove off without thinking about it. But I think I accidentally put in on 3, Overdrive. [Mistake: I meant non-Overdrive]

So the question is...

Does driving on Overdrive on a brand new Scion tC do any damage? I know about the break in period and I'm not supposed to drive too fast,
so I made sure I didn't drive faster than 60mph. I'm very **** about little things like this. I don't want to mess up my first brand new car.

[EDITED]
I meant to say driving with Overdrive off.

Your car is screwed. Throw it away and get a new one before it catches on fire and blows up.

So driving the car on overdrive for the first time on highway is ok?

How should one drive during the break-in period? All I know is that I shouldn't go over a certain mph. I was told to not go over 60mph and not drive the same speed for long periods of time. I found that difficult while I was driving high way though because I was mostly driving between 50 - 60mphs, and I most of the time was driving at a constant speed.

And is the break in period first 1000 miles or first 1500 miles?

First of all, you've kinda got it backwards. When you're on 3, you are out of overdrive. The D is overdrive. Secondly, although you shouldn't go racing and revving super high, you don't need to keep it under 60. The important thing with the break-in period is not to maintain a steady speed for long periods. You should actually vary your speeds and drive it fast a little too.

In reality, these engines are broken in before they even get bolted into the cars. And like slammed said, it's a Toyota. Think about how many Toyotas are out there, do you think every owner worried and carefully broke theirs in? If it had the potential for terrible damage, there would be a huge disclaimer page and instructions in your owner's manual and there would be an additional form you'd have to sign off on at the dealership...

IMO, if you don't drive it fast once in a while, you won't teach your VVT-i that you want it to go fast. Don't baby it for the first 1000 miles and then stomp on it, give it a taste of the whole range while it's breaking in...

oops...

you're right scionicman. I meant to say I drove with overdrive off. Is there anything wrong with driving with over drive off for the first 30 miles on highway?

No. It'll raise the RPM's a little, but nothing hazardous...

I did the exact same thing! So don't feel so bad AzurePearlTC. You aren't the first, and you definitely won't be the last! TheScionicMan summed it up best. After 6K, my tC purrs like a kitten! So, forgetaboutit!

Haha well, someone else fessed up so I'll do it as well.. I got mine on Sunday and did the exact same thing. All those jaggy lines and choices confused my poor prizm-trained mind. And here I wanted the automatic because I thought it would be less complicated.... I wondered why my RPMs looked so high....
