They seem to be getting plenty of looks in the tC. They love everything for the most part. The only thing they dont like is the radio, they dont think it is easy enough to control. However I noticed: "Average Fuel Economy: 19.1 mpg". That is alot worse then I am getting. I think 19mpg is the lowest I have had, with an avg around 24 and my best at 30 mpg.

I average 23-25, with a best of 32. I live in the middle of the city of Pittsburgh, so city driving is inevitable. The 32 was a roadtrip to the gf's parents house. Also, I haven't had any problems with backseat passengers getting in or out, as well as it being really roomy back there. I've sat in the backseat myself, getting in from the passenger side and sitting behind the drivers seat, and it required no adjusting for me to be comfy, and I have longer legs.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one getting crappy gas mileage. My average since I got my tC 4 months ago (4,500 miles) is 21.96 MPG. I live in the city of Atlanta, and almost all of my driving is city driving -- and when I say city driving, I mean driving like my daily commute of 9.8 miles each way which takes 30-35 minutes each way. Ugh. My best tank ever was 23.96 MPG.
"I use 87 gas, I usually keep acceleration below 3k rpm, I drive an auto. However 95% of my mileage is city, and most of my trips are less than 3 miles long."
you should seriously consider 89 or 92. when i was using 89, i was getting 300 miles/tank. now with 92, i get 330 miles/tank.
i agree with the article about the bucket seats. i really love the seats, but don't like having to adjust it everytime i move it. oh well, you win some, you loose some.

i agree as well, even though immediately i'll have someone yelling at me on this forum for NOT using 87 and how I'm wasting my money buying higher octane and that octane really doesn't increase mileage.... yadda yadda yadda..
I have tried using 87 and then went to 89 and DID see about a 3-4 mpg increase in fuel economy when switching to 89.. so yes i believe what the other member is saying about increases in mileage..

their worst fuel economy was 14mpg?????? Were they doing 0-60 tests? I drive relatively fast, and my worst mpg was 23 and that was doing 80 on the highway all weekend with a freakin' bike on the roof. most of the time I'm getting 25-26, I can't believe that the best they got was under 23, and that their average was 19. They must have *really* enjoyed driving that car.

I'm raising the BS flag on that 14 MPG thing -- I DO sit in stop-and-go traffic constantly, and I have had several tanks with NO highway driving of any kind, and the worst tank I have ever had was just over 20 MPG.
I check my mpg almost everytime I fill up... and my avg is 28. I've got 8k miles on it already and it stayed constant using 87 octane. I don't drive like I'm 80 years old either if thats what anyone thinks. I can't explain it but I've gotten the same results almost 25 times. I guess I'll just concider myself lucky.

From light to light it takes roughly 12 gallons of gas - has for the 6 tanks I've filled it up with. And reset the trip meter to see how much I'm getting mpg wise.
Roughly 330 - 340 miles for 12 gallons giving me 27.5 - 28 miles per gallon.
This is a mixture of highway driving (probably about 65%) and town driving (35%) but as people have said a 2.4 l engine gives better performance but is not as economical as say a 1.6l.
You have to accept a compromise somewhere along the line - if I was getting 14 miles to the gallon I'd probably be a bit ____ed as it is nowhere even in the ballpark of the EPA figures but you'd have to look at how you are driving as well.
I drive pretty conservatively. I'm not trying to go as fast as possible or out accelerate cars at the lights.

I have had my car for 3 months and I am at 9800 miles. Needless to say, I do alot of highway driving. I use 87 and average 29 mpg. I have hit 31 using 93 octane and driving like a "normal" person. I drive fast on the highway 5 days a week and love the mpg's I get.
I mixed a quarter tank of 87 with about half a tank of 110 from the track. Mmmm, my car likie. Don't know what kind of mileage I got though. Too busy pushing the pedal to the floor

City driving mostly with some freeways and it always stays between 24 and 26. Lots of lead foot too. I cannot complain. I don't know what you would have to do to get 14. I cannot even believe those that are claiming 20 or less. Maybe if I had 4 other people in the car and a trunk full of cement, keeping it at a steady 100.
