I honestly don't even have a record of a fillup where I made more than 20mpg... Most of the time the only thing in my car is me weighing in at 140 lbs, and a blanket in the trunk. I try to keep my accelerations down below 3k, on a normal tank I'd probably say I would have floored it on at least 3 occasions. My normal cruising speed on the highway is 80mph and I still get below 20mpg, an average of 18mpg or so. I've gotten 150miles at the halfway mark plenty of times, but the needle plummets real fast as it approaches 200.

When I saw edmund.com long term review on tC... I was kind of shock and disappointed... The comments from edmund.com about tC is UNJUSTED...

Either they are tC hater or they didn't get the bonus this year...

The whole article seems negative and just really disappointing...

Here is the original article...

Driving the streets of Los Angeles in the 2005 Scion tC some of our editors felt like celebrities. Countless strangers, from groups of teenagers on the street to valet attendants in shopping centers, stopped to ooh and ahh at its sleek style and clean, sporty lines. "At first, I made a mental note each time it happened, but after awhile it was so common it hardly seemed noteworthy anymore," wrote one editor in the logbook.

I have my car for 4 month.. still love it when someone like my car.

Though the tC does not have the unusual look of its siblings in the Scion fleet, Toyota has clearly gotten the word out about the youngest Scion's reasonable pricing, generous list of standard features and a no-hassle buying experience. But according to our editors, the most common question on the street is, "How does it drive?"

Drive like a dream!

"Given my lengthy commute and the significant amount of time I spend on the road, I've been pleasantly surprised by the tC's performance," one editor noted. "The vehicle's most apparent strength is the sense of stability and support it provides as I navigate windy canyon roads. Sharp turns and the need for quick braking during rush hour are welcomed by the tC's tight handling." She added that, "the ride is both smooth and comfortable and the brisk acceleration makes freeway driving gratifying. I'm not intimidated by my larger and more luxurious neighbors on the road."

Probably the only good sentence on tC

Though the car's driving dynamics have proven likable in almost every respect, we can't say the same about certain aspects of the interior design. "Like most commuters, I find the radio to be an essential part of my travel-filled lifestyle and one that could certainly use improvement in the tC model," one editor noted. "While the chrome-colored radio cover provides both a sporty and modern look to the dashboard, it serves no practical purpose other than getting in the way of tuning. It's an unnecessary feature I could do without."

Yeah... but a whole sentence to criticize just the radio is too much man...

Another editor disliked the way the stereo itself worked, as the buttons are not only small but they seem to need constant attention to get the sound the way you want it. "Though it's nice to see a numeric digital readout of the volume level on the radio display screen, I have to hold my finger to the controls for a considerable amount of time in order to notice any audible difference," our staffer wrote. "A simple dial control would be a big improvement."

What?? Another long paragraph to criticize the radio again???

As for interior comfort, most editors have found that the bucket seats are easy to adjust and provide good back support. The rear seats are quite roomy and backseat passengers seem to love the panoramic moonroof, allowing them equal opportunity to enjoy the daylight. However, long-legged friends are relegated to the front for maximum comfort.

What up man? Nice sentense... But stick it to you at the end...

In contrast, however, one editor noted that getting in and out of the rear of the tC is not as easy as Scion wants you to believe. While both the driver and passenger seats move forward to allow others to climb in, the seats don't return to their original positions, forcing the front passengers to readjust their seats each time.

 Dude... This is a 2 doors coupe man...

"I've found this to be particularly annoying anytime I've stopped to pick up a friend or drop someone off in the middle of my trip," she observed. "There is no quick way to get backseat passengers in or out and continue along your way."

 Hey man... Can't you tell this is a 2 door coupe man???

As far as storage space goes, most agreed that the tC can be a little short on usable space up front, but the trunk has plenty of wide-open space for bigger items. "No complaints here as far as space is concerned," wrote one driver, but she also noted that the trunk lid requires some muscle to open it all the way, "a difficult task when approaching the car with packages in hand."

I don't think anyone have any problem opening the trunk... Closing might be hard for person that are shorter...

So far, most of our editors' impressions of the tC have been positive. The vehicle has exceeded our initial expectations, as its handling and overall agility far surpasses its economical price tag. On the other hand, the cockpit's almost limitless number of buttons, chrome accents and flashy aesthetics has left a lot to be desired when it comes to real-world functionality. Will these early disappointments tarnish an otherwise enjoyable ownership experience? We'll let you know in months to come.

I think you edmund staff didn't get bonus this year... what happen? No chrismas party this year... poor babies...

Seriously... I think the long term reviews on tC is poorly written.... I think anyone of us here at scionlife.com can write a much better review then these guys/gals at edmund.com!!!

it's obvious that the edmunds.com reviewers are some middle aged people who want to complain about a 2-door coupe.. it's people like them that tried to make everyone drive minivans and 4-door boring cars! Basically trying to eliminate all fun 2-door coupes.. I'm glad Scion actually listened to what we wanted in a car! And for that woman to actually complain about getting friends in the back.. how funny.. it's a 2-door.. DUH!

Complaining about the radio? i know they go on and on about that.. hey i would like a **** instead of buttons, but for stock it's great.. did they even mention its sound quality? just go on and on about a button.. get a life!
I think it's kind of hilarious that these reviewers said the mazda 3's INTEGRATED radio was "unique".. but just because we have buttons instead of a **** it somehow eliminates decent sound quality? i am still laughing at how dumb it made them sound! Once again I go back and say these are middle aged people testing this, the same ones who are afraid of technology and just complain instead of learning something new..

and about the civic comment? yeah i won't drive another one of those.. I had the chance to drive my old civic again (gave it to a family member) and that acceleration is just a joke! i'll take the tC and it's 25-26 mpg's!! love it..

The only part I agree with is the stereo volume control. Should have be a dial. I have to hold down to really pump it up. But I think the controls are very big and easy to use. Much better than my other HU where the buttons were very small.

There is NO 2 door vehicle that is easy to get in/out from the back seat. If the person is going to be using the back seat a lot then do NOT get a 2 door car. Very simple.

Overall, they seem to like the car. The bad MPG could be because they had a car full of people at most times.

I agree completely, if you wanted great gas mileage, buy a hybrid ! ...

i drive 52 miles one way daily, put on over 100 a day without stopping for anything else, i do 80mph most fo the way, and then sit in stop and go for 20 miles once iget in the city and still manage about 27 mpg... (nothing to complain about)

Well I guess edmunds failed to realize that the driver's seat in fact DOES recline to its original position when pushed forward. Whenever I have people sit in the back, I usually have them go in through the driver's side so no one has to readjust anything...

the push button raido control is a pain in the rear. and the fact that the passenger seat has no memory.. are my only two complains..

i mean, most of the time i let back seat passengers in the passenger side, not my side...
