Engine Whisp Sound
Hey guys! I just recently got a White tC. 5spd, no aftermarket parts on it yet. THe only concern I had was when I drive i hear this whisping sound coming from the engine. Usualy it starts at 3k rpm and when in gear. Doesnt do it on idle. So i was wondering if it's the sound of the I Vtec kicking in, or something is coming from my tranny. Thanks!
im hoping you didnt have a honda before. vtec sounds nothing like the whistling of an intake. it basically sounds like your engine is gonna break. but then you do it over and over and over and you realize this is what the engine was built for...
well..i know all about the "Intake Whistle"...and i have a DIFFERENT whisping/sputtering sound coming from the engine. Very raspy throttle noise (not the whistle) on partial to full throttle from 2K-4K rpms. Also, i do Not hear it while free revving..only while in gear and accelerating. IS DEF NOT the INtake..sounds more exhaust or valve train related. Clearly a sputtering or whurring of some kind.
I hear 3 distinct noises: the Engine rev, the intake whistle, and now this sputtering/raspy whurring. Taking this POS in as soon as i have a day off (prob next week!)

Yeah i did have a Civic before...and i know what Vtec sounds like...I was just making an example...
*edit*
Scion Tc has a whisping sound at 3K rpm, just like a honda has a vtec sound when it kicks in at 4K rpm...I was just making an example...
and I think it is coming from an intake, cuz i just installed the injen CAI and the whisp is sort of gone...
thanks for the replies and harrassments...hehe

My noise is a raspy chatter (maybe valve tapping??) that starts at low engine speeds (2000-3000) while going from partial to full throttle. Sounds like an old beater engine! Everything "feels" okay, maybe a little less power/torque, but nothing majorly noticeable. Just sounds bad for rite now...
this has been answered several times and is also answered in the faq:

Concerning the search function: PLus, for people with dial-up (like ME!) sometimes its just easier to ASK/post a question instead of taking hours searching with your slow modem. IE. I often post a question, leave for a day or two, then come back to check on my post..I don't sit in front of my computer for hours opening up and posting in dozens of different threads in different windows, etc....
